Re: ARTICLE: Find your car's date of manufacture (VIN)

Hi Wildon,

I have booked a Punto 1.2 Emotion, the VIN is MCA11835D07024159AMZ.

As per the details you had posted in the earlier thread,
11815B0 = 1.2 8V E3 65CV/48KW ACTIVE
11825C0 = 1.4 16V E3 95CV/70KW DYNAMIC
11835C0 = 1.4 16V E3 95CV/70KW EMOTION
1185AC0 = 1.4 16V E3 95CV/70KW EMOTION PACK

I guess 11835DO is the 1.2 8V Emotion. Just wanted to validate my assumption.

Also the Fiat sales team had tried selling a feb 2010 car to me last month by claiming it was a Dec 2010 car. Luckily I had all the information to decode the VIN from your post, gave the sales team a piece of my mind. Big thanks to you for saving me and several others

Re: ARTICLE: Find your car's date of manufacture (VIN)

Well Done, Wildon: I read through the pages 6, 22, 44 etc on your other thread about how to decode VINs and it helped me when buying Scorpio. Thanks for this Article which now makes it easier (rather than browse through all pages of the old thread) to identify the VIN information.

BTW, for VW, you were posting PDF files, how are those possible?

Ford India uses a pattern which repeats every 4 years. That means the 2005-2008 pattern repeats for 2009-2012 and so on.

Decode: (Use the chart below for reference)
11th character represents the YEAR of Manufacture.
12th character represents the MONTH of Manufacture.

An Example:
If your 11th VIN character is 7, then it represents the Year - 2007
If your 12th VIN character is K, then it represents the Month - February
Wildon,

The VIN number given by my SA in Ford does not match according to the decoding which is given by you above.

I asked him for the VIN number of the Figo which i am about to pick up and your decoding doesnt seem to apply here. Moreover, the VIN starts with a different series.

Can you help me decode this VIN - bk14325 ins 4236

Is this the VIN in the first place??

Re: ARTICLE: Find your car's date of manufacture (VIN)

Hello Wildon -

Just received the VIN number of a Feb 2011 Optra Diesel from a known dealer, it goes as:

MA6NF-ABD-BB-H010527

Whereas for a Jan 2011 he gave the VIN # as:

MA6NF-19D-AB-H010269

Do you have any clue if there has been a change on the part of GM?

My dealer also gave me the VIN # for a FEB 2011 Cruze, just to confirm, it goes as:

MA6JF-DBD-BB-H012611

Thanks for all your help.

Regards,

Somethings cannot be shared. I do NOT need this info at this moment, if so will surely PM you. BTW, does that only work for VW/Audi/Skoda? not for Mahindra?

Side Note:
Also here is something I found during the Scorpio buying process. Many of the VINs encode info like day of manufacture, but for Scorpio, there is a sticker on the windshield which reads like, for example: A 24 02 (white color sticker). Scorpio VIN does encode the year and month, but not the date.

I think, Here A is the year, 24 the date, and 02 the month of manufacture. Note these stickers are found only on new vehicles (as owners can remove it with ease)

I could not confirm this, but noticed this on newer vehicles during my visit to the dealership through from Dec, to Feb and found these matching with my assumption. May be someone from Mahindra can confirm.

Re: ARTICLE: Find your car's date of manufacture (VIN)

Dear Fellow T-BHPian -

A humble request on my part for all February or post February Chevy (any model) owners; I would be really thankful if you may PM me your car VIN.

The reason being: I am planning to buy an Optra Diesel and the Feb make VIN that has been shared with me is a bit strange.

The Issue: The 6th and the 7th letters on the VIN have changed from digits to alphabets, please refer to my previous post.

Thanks for all your help !!

Regards,
