Re: ARTICLE: Find your car's date of manufacture (VIN)

Need your advice. I have taken delivery of a new Ford Ecosport last Friday. Earlier, I had checked the VIN sequence (MAJAXXMRKAGB29287) and it suggested Jan 2016 make. But I checked the below Ford website later, after taking delivery, and to my shock the build date is given as 12.11.2015. Insurance mentions 2016 and the dealer swears RC book is 2016 and he will get the RC book quickly to clear my doubts. He has showed the Ford invoice which shows the car was dispatched from factory on Feb 18th.

https://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleSelection.do

But when I check the tyres, it is mentioned as 43/2015 (October 20th week). I am very concerned and disturbed now.

So why would the Nov built car was dispatched only in February. Is it normal - it is 3.5 months from build date. But atleast the dealer should have mentioned this clearly before selling.

Please advise. Thanks.

Hi Team,

Need help to confirm this VIN for the new Mahindra Xylo.

I only have the last 8 characters of the 17. G2B24820

Sorry for the late reply. It's Feb 2016 model. The tenth character 'G' represents the year 2016 and the eleventh character '2' represents the February month.

I have an XUV500 in transit, and the dealer has shared the following serial number: G6C17895.

Can I confirm that this is 2016 (G) and March (C) manufacture.

Thanks,
Ajay

Re: ARTICLE: Find your car's date of manufacture (VIN)

Are you sure this is the VIN? Mine starts with MA1. Plus I have a number at the 7th digit from right. As per my understanding, the eight digit from right "G" corresponds to 2016, and the sixth digit "B" corresponds to Feb.

I think that was wrong number provided by sales. I have the right number now and just verified that it is a March 2016 manufactured car.

Today when i went for final payment after Loan formalities to BIRD gurgaon as well as pre-registration PDI, my service advisor gave me a new VIN with WBA8C770X05C34724.
on decoding it shows to be manufactured in 25-01-2016. whereas he told me it was of march 2016. he also did not shows form 22, as according to him, the car has not being billed to BMW as yet. is something fishy? changing of VIN. and that it is Jan 2016. Please advise as i am not getting a good feeling

These are the first 17 characters of the VIN. There are 2 more characters at the end of the VIN which indicate the month and year of manufacture. The VIN is visible in the area under the bonnet (somewhere near the left wiper). Alternatively, ask the dealer to show you the Form-22 for the vehicle. It should have the tracing of the VIN on it.
