Re: DIY PICS : ANHC Fiberglass Subwoofer Box

Check the data sheet for the max cone excursion (one direction). Keep the gap twice that at least. The reference should be the top of the surround, and to calculate the length of the spacer you would need to add the distance between the MDF ring top and the top of the surround.

Does that mean Xmax? its mentioned as 17mm (one way linear) in the data sheet?

Yup, Xmax it is. So, your gap should be 34mm at least.

17mm is linear. If the sub is pushed non-linear excursion can occur and yes 34mm will be adequate although I'd have liked a bit more say 50mm.

I think i'll be able to give a max spacer of 40mm or so cause then 10mm is plexi, and if its more than that then i'll check if the boot lid rod comes into contact with the grill, otherwise 50mm should be possible.
Also what materials can be used as spacers between the mdf ring and plexiglass? i was thinking of nylon or teflon spacers, something like these

Thought of copper geyser pipes also, but i think they would scratch the plexi, and these nylon ones would solve the purpose. And should the grill be mounted on the screw holes on the woofer or other screw holes ?

1. Dont you any metals they might ring or buzz.

I normally use a ring of MDF as a spacer and have not experimented with nylon, teflon etc.

Re: DIY PICS : ANHC Fiberglass Subwoofer Box

hit a roadblock ! today being a sunday started fixing the grill, the problem is the max distance i can get from the surround cone is 30mm, because after that the metal part for lifting the hood comes in the way

What can i do ? Should i place it at 30mm distance ?

Complete Box

Neutrik Connector

Grill had to be put after box was inside the boot, otherwise the height is too much for it to get into the boot.

Action !

I think thats about it !

Where in Delhi/NOIDA can I source all this material? Like is there a one-stop-shop somewhere. I was thinking of starting small by making a pair of headlight eyebrows (simple straight lines, not much hardwork, if you catch my drift). Any help would be much appreciated. And needless to say, your work is mighty neat.

Thanks. I got most of the stuff from Rithala Village, dont remember the person, had the number somewhere and i think i have misplaced it. But you can search for fiberglass Rithala, or fiberglass patparganj and you will get a lot of people. The daily use items such as cello tape, cloth, cups etc you can get from anywhere, and the chemicals from these shops. I could not find any shop in noida supplying the same.
Just be careful with this stuff, its very sticky and the mat is very itchy. Also don't mix more than 100-200ml at once or you'll end up with solid FG cups. And where ever you buy the stuff from the prices should approximately be similar , and you can ask them about what proportions to mix in.
