Budget HU for Liva - Only USB and pendrive required(CDs optional)

Liva comes with 4 speakers. Thats it.
I am thinking of getting a nice HU for less than 6K(Market price).

All I need is
1. It should read from pen drives
2. It should have lots of FM preset stations.

What do you recommend which can give good SQ.

Most people have told me that JBL HUs wont play if track number exceeds 255. I do not want such silly restrictions, as I can have a 1000 files in a single folder!

If it can play mp3 CDs it will be an added bonus!

That's a weird restriction that i saw in multiple players that i tested before i choose a Sony one. Mine plays mp3 from a pen drive (the drive itself is hidden inside and does not protrude outside like the rest of them), it sounds decent, has a connector inside for iPod and iPhone (both lie inside the trey) and the songs can be controlled from the buttons on the HU.

Just saw JVC and launched something similar, do take a look (http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/produc...4-990-inr.html)

Which sony model? How much did it cost. So no restriction in your model. where does the pen drive go in? Do you have to bend down and insert it somewhere near the rear?
Some more details about model etc., please!

TSK, I think the USB supported HU is costlier than Aux-in support.
The bare-bones version typically support Auxin then followed by USB and finally IPOD.
(You must be already aware)

I have been using Blaupunnkt with Aux-In with last 7 years. Its only Ipod which plays all
the time for me through Aux-In.

There are many USB support HUs for 3000rs (JBL/JVC/sony/Pioneer)

Re: Budget HU for Liva - Only USB and pendrive required(CDs optional)

The other choice could be you can use any darn good HU eg. JBL HU and add the Kenwood KOS 300 system which is good to read USB's and also gives you the added benefit of Bluetooth along with a fancy rotary knob to add that class touch. Provided KOS is available, but its a good unit I believe.

OR Just get a good Kenwood HU which can give you good SQ + USB feature + Bluetooth.

You could find it in my ownership thread of Baleno here (http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/long-t...000-kms-3.html).

It costed me ~5-6k, do not remember it exactly, but was surely not above 6k. Now it should be even cheaper and there might be better models available.

Re: Budget HU for Liva - Only USB and pendrive required(CDs optional)

Why not audition Pioneer DEH-2390UB? I had auditioned it and liked its SQ pretty well. I think should come well within 6k, rather 5k with all the features you want and 1 RCA preout in case needed and without any restrictions as such. Otherwise bare bone DEH-149UB would do good too and that could be well within 5k now.

4 speakers in Liva, like Etios aren't they 2 tweeters on dash and dismal front door speakers? Atleast you would need rear parcel tray 6X9 ovals with good dampener rings fittings from JBL/Morel/RF. Ideally you would need to replace those dismal front door speakers too to get good quality audio.

Re: Budget HU for Liva - Only USB and pendrive required(CDs optional)

I finally got the JBL 333.
The 250 file limitation is there in many units, and I found its SQ quite good actually, with Stock liva speakers.
So the mouth watering price (3000 INR including installation) nailed it for me.
I am quite enjoying it.

For 3000 bucks its quite a steal!

Re: Budget HU for Liva - Only USB and pendrive required(CDs optional)

Congrats on your choice.

As mentioned earlier, if you want to overcome the limitation of USB and add more features to your setup like Bluetooth get Kenwood KOS 300.

I guess 256 limitation is due to the 8 bit addressing done using the micro-controller. So might be existing in many HUs. So how you are finidng the HU expereicne of last 15 days . Mostly I will also be getting same for my Figo.

Any idea what is the cost of Kenwood KOS 300. I dont mind paying little extra for the bluetooth feature in HU.

Re: Budget HU for Liva - Only USB and pendrive required(CDs optional)

I am enjoying it. But I am not an audiophile. Its sufficiently clear. Display is too dim(not very visible in sunlight).
When I switch it off, the clock does not keep glowing. This is annoying. Liva does not have a clock, and I was hoping that the HU will be the clock.

A small issue though. If I put in a pendrive with 50+ folders, it takes a lot of time to read stuff. I guess upto 15-20 folders is ok, any more, and its trouble.

That is important . Getting the best bang for the buck does puts a smile on your face . I am not an audiophile either , but helps in the upgrade process when you feel the need .
