Maruti Swift : DIY Carputer And ICE'D!

Hi Everyone,
I've installed a Carputer in my swift (a DIY), an year ago. The carputer threads on TBHP has helped me a lot in doing this.

Here's my carputer configuration.
Asus M2N68AM SE2 -Motherboard
AMD Athlon X2-Processor
2GB DDR2 ram
160 watt M2 DC-DC psu with ITPS.
7" touchscreen LCD.
Cabinet was made from my old cd player(a DIY)
Mercury ext. DVD writer
160 GB PATA HDD
GPS receiver.
Its now directly connected to a JBL CS1215T basstube(12") via Sony Xplod XMGTX6042 amp(4 ch.)

And here are some pictures of it.

do you have some pictures of the cabinet build up, and its placement? i see that you have placed it in the dash, does it cause any heating issues?

Thanks infotech58.
I've placed the cabinet under the co-driver seat. No heating issues till now.
I will post the pictures later.

Nice setup indeed!
I got some questions

1. Which car? Diesel/petrol?
2. Which screen is this ?
3. How is the screen mounted ?
4. Why a PATA HDD instead of a SATA or even an SSD?

Also, I installed a DVD writer in the car but removed it as I barely used it 4-5 times in 2 years.

Thanks StreetAddict.
1. The car is a Diesel Swift.
2. Screen is a 7 inch touchscreen, sourced from Hongkong.
3. Mounting was very easy. It was a correct fit. Used the OE clamps.
Here's a picture of that.

4. I'd an old PATA hard disk which I used here.

I've also removed the DVD writer because it was no longer in use.

Re: Maruti Swift : DIY Carputer And ICE'D!

How much did the entire set up cost you? Would it be easier and/or cheaper to use a budget Android tab instead? Possibly add a tata photon/ 3G USB stick.

Somewhere around 60000+Rs. I don't remember actually.
Fitting an Android tab will be much easier, I think. But it's capabilities will be minimal when compared to a carputer.

Cheers

Re: Maruti Swift : DIY Carputer And ICE'D!

'Fitting' the Android tab will be more difficult, considering all the tabs have the buttons on the edge, not the fascia.

In terms of capabilities, if one is happy with the tab's capabilities outside the car, it is good enough in the car (incl. BT based diagnostics, which is not a high CPU load). If the music / video performance of the tab is lacking inherently, it is no good anyhow whether in the car or outside it.

Of course, there is one thing a tab can't do what a Carputer can - interface to a reversing camera.

@ACMohan The new screen looks amazing. What's the cost and manufacturer?? And how is the touch response?? The display is quite crisp. Good work. Love it.

Re: Maruti Swift : DIY Carputer And ICE'D!

Thank you chinmaybaikar.
The screen is of a Chinese brand. Bought it for around 9000Rs 1.5 years back.
The touch response is quite good.
