Now the main difference between the STP Silver and i-COPPER i-D9 of comparable 2mm thickness, is that STP uses silver.

The other difference between the 2mm sheets and the 7mm i-COPPER i-D5 sheets that I could make out is that the i-D5 sheets come with a layer of foam. How important is this layer of foam?.
I am sure there is no real silver or copper in any of these packs. Most of them have an aluminum backing.

Get the pack with the 5mm of foam. If you want to understand more about this google "Constrained Layer Damping". The foam in this case helps a lot.

Hope this helps.

You can also look at Dampmat.

How is your experience with Dampmat exceed? I am looking to damp doors and spare tire floor area in my car.

Also, though it's about 2years since you did installation, can you please share the cost of Dampmat Exceed that you paid. This will be a good reference point for me.

These damping materials are opaque, and to be used on metal sheets. Not on glass. These will not be suitable for your requirement.

If you are facing noise due to vehicles, then suggest to check on sound-proofing ( non-automotive). You could try heavier glass in the windows, and thick curtains.

Good double glazing, as I have seen in houses on busy roads in UK, cuts out a lot of noise. Also a good insulator

Re: The Damping Material and Sound Deadener Thread

Hi

Wanted to know how audio being heard outside of the car can be controlled.

At a very low volume of about 12 or so the sound is very audible outside on the Honda Amaze. It’s got two layers of STP damping.

I have experience on previous cars like Volkswagen and Tata that at least till the volume peaks past 18 or so does people outside make out what is played.

What can actually be done to contain the sound within the car at such low volume levels. I do understand the car is very flimsy, but feels even an old Hyundai Santro was better at this part.

Is damping useful on older cars? I have a 12yr old Esteem which has rattles and squeaks galore. Would damping make a significant difference?

Rattling and squeaks in an old car are about parts getting loose over the years. Damping most likely will Not help you here.

If done correctly, yes it is extremely helpful.
I'm not to sure about the range of products available to you, but there are products for treating all sorts of noise.

Re: The Damping Material and Sound Deadener Thread

I have a 9 year old Safari 2.2, done 1 lakh kms, well maintained, single-hand driven by me only, all parts changed as per manual. Though engine is in superb condition, still sound of engine, as well as other (wind, tyres), inside cabin has increased a lot, obviously.

What solution I can apply to reduce sound from entering cabin?
I am based in Lucknow, so no such outlets with professional people are available here like in metros (Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, etc.).

Thanks in advance

Re: The Damping Material and Sound Deadener Thread

I have a 9 month old S-cross and interested to do damping of doors. 3M provides an acoustic solution as well as we have dampmat and others.
Which solution is better for NVH reduction?
Anyone knows a professional installer for damping in Pune?
Thanks in advance.

What make and How old is the Safari tyres? I have changed my Safari tyres to Michelin LTX Force and the road noise compared to Bridgestone is very less.

Wind noise might be due to ageing of all the four door rubber beedings. Just get the doors realigned and if required get beedings changed.

I would prefer Dampmat/Dynamat depending on your budget. I have Dampmat in Innova for last 6 years.
