I would recommend DDPai mini too. You don't need a screen on the dashcam. My previous dashcam had a screen. I would hardly look at the footage on it. DDPai has Wi-Fi so it's much easier to check the footage and download videos on your phone.

One piece of advice, there is also a CPL filter available for the cam. It's not a real polarizer filter, it's just a dark glass like sunglasses for your dashcam. Adding it doesn't cut down the reflection of the dashboard on the windscreen. I would not recommend getting it. It makes no difference.

So the capacitor DOES GO kaput. For all it's worth, the battery on my Transcend DashCam purchased over 5 years ago is still good. I have parked in blazing hot sun few times, it still works well

It's not absolutely necessary, but in many cars dashboard reflection becomes so bad ...

Just for everyone's benefit, here is the difference between CPL and w/o CPL. This CPL filter is on 70mai A500S Pro Plus+ installed in my Seltos.

Remarkable difference in clarity:thumbs up
Could you please show pics of filter and non-filter shots during night driving.
I plan to place order for the CPL Filter for my DDPAI Mini which captures shiny reflection from the dashboard.

I will buy the CPL filter only after using the dashcam after using without the filter and then decide whether I really need it or not.
But yes, the difference is great in the above pictures.

I have been looking at dash cams for the past decade as simple recording devices never actually getting one. Haven't been able to take the jump due to the wiring involved.

This particular device has piqued my interest. Has anyone had the chance to use or witness this dash cam that comes with solar attachment

Would check if I have any, did not go out after sunset for long time now. Else I'll try to go out for a short video soon. But if you are worried about exposure, it is definitely lesser than that of without CPL. But what ever I saw before, with headlight on and peripheral lights from street, video is clear albeit little darker. Plus point headlight of on coming car is quite dimmed with a CPL.

...

I do not think this is a dashcam; this is backup camera, for rear view display while backing up your car. So it does not record the video as a dashcam does.

Auto Vox has some dashcam too, but they do not seem wireless or solar powered.

I had somehow forgot that capacitor can go bad considering we all replace the capacitors in the ceiling fans regularly every few years. My dashcam(B40-C) with capacitor is on its 8th year and hope it goes further. If it fails, I know where first to check now.

Er... the G1W-H has a battery, not a capacitor. Source - I own one that is no longer working (the power cable does not stay in the camera's socket).

Cheers

It uses a mini USB socket IIRC. If so, any decent mobile phone repair guy will be able to replace it for a couple of hundred bucks

Thanks for the CPL filter link and images.

My question to you guys is, how have you affixed the camera on windshield? Did you use the electrostatic plastic sheet to attach the camera to windshield or just pasted the camera directly? I need to install the 70mai A500 Pro Plus in my car.

I used the electrostatic film on windshield then pasted the camera base on it. For me it's working fine, electrostatic film did not give any problem. Parked under sun for long or very bumpy ride, nothing made it get loose (using it for last 8 months).

But in my friends Creta, electrostatic film fell off twice without any rough use (both happened within a day or two). Later we used clear double sided tape and over that added the base. You may wonder why another layer of double sided tape when dashcam base comes with 3M one; its only because removal of this type of clear tape is easier than 3M tapes come with dashcam.

I use the electrostatic sheet came along with the dashcam. I once removed it and placed again to correct the view; still it's working fine even after 10 months.

Your compelling post/pics convinced me to buy CPL for my 4K 70mai A800S (Rs850) :). Added an extra set of stickers and electrostatic sheets (Front+back) too since it was on SALE (Rs450).
