re: What to look for while buying a Dash Cam

I still think this query ought to be a part of the other dash cam thread. All the information being sought is readily available there.
Anyway, here are my suggestions.
I dont use a chauffeur nor do I give my cars to anyone to drive. I rarely let them out of my sight. And nor do I have childrens safety to worry aboit.
Hence for ms having a front facing dash cam is more than enough. Im interested in the visuals and not the sound so I mute all my dash cams.
The primary needs are - first class frontal view and recording in high resolution. A good amount of recording space. Usually served with a standard micro sd 128gb memory card.
It is nice to have a view display but it is not absolutely essential. The cameras with view displays coat more than double what those without displays cost. And anyway one has to-use the apps and download and save the recordings.
The primary reason for having a dashcam is only as a preventive safety measure. It is important that they have ‘parking mode’ which sets them off to quickly record in case an impact is felt on the car when it is parked and stationary in some place and when one is not present. Of course if a dust cover is used then the recording will be of no use.
Bearing all this in mind, Ive bought and fixed a 70Mai with a 128 gb micro sd card in my Thar. That cost about 7500 plus 1000 odd for the micro sd memory stick - at the time - Feb 2021. And one DDPai with 128 gb micro sd card in each of the other cars, the Cooper and Gypsy. These cost only 3650 each plus 1000 off for the micro sd memory sticks.
I bought all these on Amazon. And they are perfectly good products.
Here are the product pictures from Amazon.

Rather than listing everything out here I prefer to direct you to a fantastic website dedicated to dashcams - www.dashcamtalk.com.

You'll find all the answers you need there.

Cheers

Are you planning to install on a Cigarette light/USB or via Fuse? I have Creta and I have installed it myself and it was simple Do It Yourself. They have given ply tool and used to tuck the wire inside the panel and it is fine. I have connected it to Cigarette lighter point and freeing up other two USB for Carplay and Charging. One issue I have seen is over days, the cigarette light holder becomes loose and camera does not get power. It needs to be pushed slightly. Now consciously I wait for Beep sound/light of holder after I switch on the car (It comes in 5 sec) and then start driving.

I have seen Nexdigitron (DDPAI/70mai) providing kit to connect to fuse , but have not seen it for Qubo.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hi,
I went through last 50 pages of this thread and shortlisted 70mai A400 and A500 dual channel. My primary requirement is dual channel dashcam to record any untoward incidents. I would have preferred to go with super capacitor model DDPAI Z40, but their poor app discouraged me from pursuing it.
If I don't care about GPS and ADAS, does it make sense to go with A400 instead of A500 to save around Rs 2K?

Has anyone installed dashcam on the new Brezza model with seat side airbags?

Thanks for this. I would prefer an installation method that hides the wires but doesn't damage any lining inside the car. Also, would prefer the parking mode as well, but I am willing to let this go. Hence I am not sure if Qubo will suffice.

If anyone has got the installation done by local players in NCR (using high-quality cams like the DDPAI/Qubo ones being discussed in this thread) do share their review/number/link so I can visit them myself.

Get a high endurance MLC card rather than the TLC one you have shown here, that's all I will say :

I have installed DDPAI Mini on my car and hardwired it myself. Whichever one you go for, please get hardwire kit bundled into the order even if you intend to use the 12V power outlet. I did not and couldn't get hold of hardwire kit separately for a long time.
Installation is very easy, just tuck in the wiring. I recieved a trim pry tool within the box and rest was as easy as playing with LEGO.
Any electronic accessory shop would do. Choose one you visit/nearest to you.

Purchased the RedTiger T27 mirror dash cam for my Scorpio N from Amazon along with the hard wire kit. This one is made for left hand drive cars but works fine for India because the front camera can be adjusted and has a very wide field of view. Although RedtTiger makes one for RHD also I couldn't find any retail seller selling it in India. Total cost of the dashcam and the hardire kit was Rs 18,789 and another 1k for installation at a local shop nearby.

It shoots 4k front video and 2.5k rear. Has a parking mode as well which cuts off when it detects a low battery. I recently left the car for 10 days and it recorded every time it detected someone touching the car (which was my car cleaner).

So far working really well. Does away with the need for a separate rear camera for my Z4 (which doesn't come with one). Video quality is crystal clear. Doesn't have wifi support though.
Thanks for the useful information. My Z4 D AT reached the dealership, will be taking the delivery this week. I would like to know if there will be any challenge in accessing the 12V socket as its placed in the 3rd row and I have no plans to hardwire it.

Also, I see lot of positive reviews for Wolfboax mirror cameras, do you have any info on this ?

Hello. Wolfbox and RedTiger are essentially the same product with different branding. Both are manufactured by the same company. So choose whichever is cheaper imo.

I didn't need to access the 12V socket as I got the dashcam hardwired to the fusebox. If you don't want to do that the length of the supplied wire was quite long and would have reached the back socket.

So far pretty good. The only downside would be that mirror cam can be a lot more reflective than ordinary IRVM when sunlight falls on it from the rear car window. Check if you can get either RedTiger or Wolfbox for right hand drive cars. The ones that were available when I bought one were all imported units for left hand drive ones. Those work well too because the camera is not fixed and can be moved. But I know for a fact that they manufacture their cameras for RHD cars as well.

ok. I came across this video where Redtiger mirror camera has been installed on RHD , not sure if he has installed it upside down.

I am looking for a dashcam for my Ecosport Titanium 2021 model for following reasons:
  1. The basic purpose of front dashcams - evidence of any untoward incident
  2. I also plan to record entire road trip during some scenic or adventure rides
  3. Ecosport's rear camera is of very bad quality especially during night and rains. Although it gets the work done but still need additional backup rear camera

With this, I have below set of requirements:
  1. Must be a dual cam setup with wide angle coverage and night vision'
  2. Don't really care about 2K or 4K but should have just enough crisp quality to be able to read number plates
  3. Mandatory super-capacitor based power
  4. Parking monitoring - optional but preferred. At least must have a G-Sensor for auto recording after collision
  5. GPS - This is optional because I also plan to have OBD2 based logger like Autowiz/OneLap in future
  6. LCD View - Optional but must have realtime video viewing on mobile through WiFi
  7. CPL filter - optional-I am not sure of this one. I prefer this but if the camera itself has some WDR or self correction capability then it is not needed
  8. Budget upto 15k. Can extend upto 20k for out of box features

The only dash cam that fulfills most of the above criteria is the DDPAI X2S Pro. Additionally it has this sleek remote snapshot button. But I don't see it for sale in Amazon. Is Z40 the upgraded model for this?

Thinkware/Viofo dashcams are expensive. And I liked the discreet factor of the Garmins, however they are not available in India I suppose. Any other options do I have?
My requirement is likewise. So what did you choose? What was your options? What were the pros and cons of the options you evaluated?

I have installed DDPAI with hardwire in my Duster. The app is enough to do the job. No issues, but nothing to write home about. Videos download in 3 min durations over wifi. Longer videos will need direct transfer from SD Card.

As far as installation is concerned, the wiring would run through the roof lining toward the outer edges. I don't think there will be any crossover with airbag functioning. Both front and rear modules will be high mounted. Connection to lighter port can be done from any side, but hardwire would come to fusebox inside the cabin by tucking into the A Pillar. Marutis generally have them on right side. Dont know specifically for Brezza.
Parking mode needs hardwiring for continuous monitoring.
