Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hi all,
I've been using a 70Mai dashcam for the past 2 years or so but its battery has bricked about a month ago. I was looking for a replacement battery in the local shops but none of them seems to have one. I searched online and there is only one website that sells it but the price is not cheap and I'm a bit skeptic to pay with no return option available and possible chinese origin.

In this scenario I was thinking of getting an older version of Gopro (hero 8 or so) to use as dashcam although it's expensive for that. I just need a front camera and don't fancy recording accidents etc. that real dashcams provide. Now I want to ask if anyone here ever used gopro as dashcam. Also is there any mount available to mount it on the windshield. Or should I just go ahead and purchase a new battery for my 70mai online.

You can get the battery from Next Digitron, they are the authorised suppliers of 70mai

Yes I know, this is the website I was talking about. But do you have any experience with them. I mean are they reliable as the battery cost 1k which is quite high for a rechargable battery.

I have bought my 70mai dash cam recently from them and lot of others whom I know have bought in the last couple of months from them.

BTW for which model of dash cam you need the battery, I can check with someone I know.

I bought my dashcam from them three years back. I also had a chat with them before purchasing as I wanted the dual-channel dashcam without the rear camera. They're approachable and I believe they're genuine. They're selling products on Amazon as well and are authorized sellers of brands like DDPAI and 70mai.

Note: I'm not affiliated with them, just sharing my experience.

They are genuine players.
Bought Nexdigitron Dashcam last month directly from them.
Very responsive customer support , even for basic queries.
The camera works reasonably well, easy to set up (got the OBD kit), have interesting screen grabs from my Bay of Bengal to Arabian Sea year end trip.

Thank you all for your valuable advice. I'll just go ahead and place an order for replacement battery instead of spending 30k for Gopro.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hello folks,

I am looking forward to install a dashcam in my Honda City. Looking for some feedback from owners of these two models:
  • DDPAI N1 Dual DashCam
  • 70mai Dash Cam A400 Dual Channel DashCam
I am trying to determine a better camera based on the following:
  1. Day time image quality - glare control & visibility of number plates
  2. Night time image quality - ability to capture the road condition clearly
  3. App connectivity for iOS - stable/reliable app with ease of data access
  4. Long-term ownership reliability - overall which is a better brand from a reliability standpoint
I would appreciate if you can share your insights/experience on the above points. In case there is a better model than the ones listed, kindly let me know.

Thank you in advance! Cheers!!

I cannot comment on 70mai since I don't have any experience on it.

I would recommend you to stay away from DDPAI because its prone to restarting every now and then. The problem will not persist for a few weeks before coming back in full vigor. Also the Android app is buggy.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I just ordered the 70mai A500S for my VW Virtus and I wanted to know that is the 12v socket actually always powered.

I was looking to get it hardwired and then read some users comments that it might not need hardwiring after all.

Also, anything to prevent the battery from getting discharged that has been tried?

Only when the ignition is ON.

If you want recording with parking features (motion based recoding), only option is hardwiring. Check with your SA if hardwiring will void warranty - some manufacturers do.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hi, I am looking for a dashcam for my 2022 facelift XL6. What mandatory features I should look for and any recommanded brand/model you guys can suggest and what budget I need to keep aside?

Since XL6 already has 360 view cameras, app tracking and app alerts features, so if I install front only dashcam with recording during ignition start, I think it should suffice my need in case of any dispute. Also once card memory is full, it should auto delete oldest recording and recordings should be accessible without taking out the card. Please suggest!!

This article will help you understand what is essential in a dashcam.
https://dashcameras.in/blogs/dash-ca...ar-dash-camera

I have been using 70mai A400 series dashcam and have been more than happy with the performance as yet. Viofo, 70mai, DDPAI are the most preferred brands amongst the BHPians. A budget of min 10k should get you a decent dashcam.

Most of the dashcam require a memory card and the recording of footages is generally FIFO (First In First Out) type so the first recording gets written over when the memory card gets full. You will need to choose a dashcam which has good wifi interface with the app, this will eliminate the need to remove the memory card and the footages can be accessed on the mobile app itself.

Usually you can find good dashcams in 5-10k budget.
I am using 70mai pro plus+ A500S dashcam and pretty happy with it. Video quality is good and the videos can be viewed and downloaded via the 70mai app without taking out the card. Though it may take few seconds to couple of minutes to download the clip depending on the clip duration (you can set it to 1/2/3 minutes length). If you like to download in bulk then it'd be better to take out the card and use a laptop. This is same case with most dashcams.
It also has GPS module inbuilt which displays vehicle speed and coordinates. I purchased it from Amazon and did DIY installation via front 12 v socket. You can take help from a car accessories shop for installation if you like.
