There was a reddish tinge and I could not make out the number plates of cars. But the live streaming function was very much there.

I would not buy Kent because of the image quality problems. I think you can go to their site and try to source it or ask them for a demo. I don't think they have shut shop.

I have not even heard of the other brands you have mentioned. I will do my research on them now.

From other countries, the dashcam I found is called the Blackvue DR 970X-2CH LTE Plus. The Youtube reviews compared many live streaming dashcams and this one seems to be the best. USD 450 upfront cost with 128GB memory card and USD 8 per month for the cloud services. I have asked someone in the US to call their customer care and ask if the LTE sim slot will allow Indian SIMs and if I can use the cloud services in India. If they say that it will work in India, I will update this thread so that someone coming from USA can bring it and you can use it in India. I will do the same. But, it does not have internal view. Its got front and rear. Maybe you can install the rear camera on the front windshield to show the inside of the car.

Nextbase IQ is another brand in USA that has live streaming services. I emailed them and they clearly said no to their dashcam cloud services working in India.

Thanks for sharing your research. I am near concluding that live stream cameras are not successful in India either due to poor picture quality or interrupted streaming. I may end up buying a 3 channel dashcam from Amazon that is within around the 15k range. Or I may even consider buying a dual channel and use the rear camera for the cabin use (my main purpose). This should cost me around the 10k mark in the Amazon sale. Given the limited use of the dashcam for me (win cabin), it does not make much sense for me to spend over 15k for a non streaming device. Will keep everyone posted here once I get it. Thanks

Once decided, the buying experience was super smooth. I decided to buy from the Viofo online store directly and contacted Vijay on WhatsApp. I got clarification to each and every query and also assurance that I will be getting the delivery in Bangalore on 20th Sep if I placed order on 18th Sep EOD. I received delivery of the camera in Bangalore on the day as promised. Additionally, I ordered a 256GB MicroSD card from Amazon, for this camera.

This was 1 year back, I bought this Viofo A139 Pro dashcam from Vijay, Viofo customer care support. I want to share my recent experience with Viofo.

Recently, in November 2024, my Viofo A139 Pro dashcam suddenly started rebooting, all of a sudden during a drive. I had hardwired my Dashcam and was using a 256GB SanDisk Extreme card. Until now it was working flawless. I disconnected the DashCam immediately and kept it to cool down for some time. However, rechecking, trying to connect alternate power source from 12V socket, formatting the SD card all that failed and Dashcam kept rebooting.

I contacted Vijay on WhatApp and received immediate response. He asked me to do some more troubleshooting including Firmware upgrades. When everything failed, he sent me a new unit without me asking for it. I am pleasantly surprised and was extremely happy and thankful to the support received from Vijay Viofo India. In our country, where we always see customers taken for granted (it happened with my Apple iPad Pro recently) Viofo India customer care is something to look forward for. Vijay from Viofo realized the urgent need for having the Dashcam in working condition and sent me a replacement unit. I received the new VioFo A139 Pro new unit the next day.

Vijay mentioned that Viofo recommends SanDisk Max Endurance only these days, so I went ahead and bought one 256GB card immediately. Vijay also said he will pick up my old unit and check for issues with my old unit that caused it to restart.

With this direct positive & wonderful experience, I will always consider a VioFo Dashcam, more confidently.

DashCams, we need it to be thoroughly reliable with a fit it - forget it approach. We only need to check it periodically to see all is well with its recordings. Also, when we need it, we should be confident to retrieve the footage. If we are not sure if DashCam is consistently recording, or we have difficulties in viewing/transferring footage then that DashCam should be avoided. All other aspects of hardware, sensors used, price etc. are secondary, I will always look for that somewhat bulletproof reliability and the confident inspiring support we receive for any DashCam.

Cheers,
narayanang76

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

After much research for the last few weeks, I’ve finally settled on the Viofo A229 PRO 2CH Dashcam today. I decided not to opt for their MicroSD card since the 128GB option wasn’t available. Instead, I went ahead with the SanDisk 128GB MAX Endurance MicroSD (Amazon link).
A big shoutout to Mr. Vijay from Viofo, who has been incredibly supportive and patient in addressing all my questions and doubts.
I’ve also purchased a card reader (Amazon link).
I’m still waiting to receive the camera and test the entire setup. I’ll keep you posted on the results.
Meanwhile, could you please recommend someone in Bangalore who can help install it aesthetically? Initially, my dealer, Magnum Honda, had promised to handle the installation for a nominal charge, but unfortunately, they’ve gone silent and are not responding to my messages.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for your valuable input so far!

If you are near Whitefield then you can check with car accessories shop "The Drift" on Varthur Main road, near Palm Meadows, Ramagondanahalli.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

One of the best smart mirror/dashcam front/rear with 4k recording. Costs around 9k as of now.(105 dollars after discount).

I have been using this smart mirror since 6 months and I fully recommend the same. I have created a 5 min video to show the real world appearance and clarity. In the description I have already added the website link and discount code.

The product took 15+ days to arrive at my place. I live in Hyderabad.

I have a Scorpio-N Z2 which doesn't have "android auto" option or a reverse camera. This product solves both my problems, without any cuts to the dashboard panels or rear door/boot.
  • Now I have a camera (front and rear)
  • I can see both camera footage all the time.
  • All the footage gets recorded all the time
  • I can use Android auto for music or gmap and to top it off, it is wireless

Following are Key Features:
  • Dual-channel dashcam: 4K front camera & 1080p rear camera
  • Wireless Android Auto & Apple Carplay for cars without these features
  • Enhanced visibility for day and night drives, ensuring clear number plate capture
  • Advanced functionalities: time-lapse video, parking monitor for added security

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

A generic question.

Is there a usecase for a dashcam for XUV700 AX7L? I understand the 360 degree camera has the capability to record, but still reading about the storage and rewrite capabilities.

I am thinking about buying the dual channel dashcam with Starvis 2 sensor. Before I pull the plug, want to ensure, I am not buying something that is natively available in the vehicle.

Please chime in

And for other things, setup regular 2-3 channel dashcam as per your need.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I also wish to install 2 channel dashcam in my XL6 (not an urgent need). Features I am looking for:-
(1) Dual channel
(2) Front cam Sony Starvis 2 (so number plate visible in night)
(3) Capacitor based, not battery (as NCR has high temp in summers)
(4) Display (not a mandatory need)

Budget is max 15k. Looking for reputed and stable brand/model only, so that one time investment, and I install it and forget it.

In addition to the details of my dashcam, following is the recording quality of the dashcam on my trip from Aurangabad to Hyderabad. In Aug 2024, I had created a timelapse video, to help any one who wants to drive that route.

I have kept the dashcam video setting as 2k, since 4k was generating bigger files, but still the clarity is not bad.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hi All, I didn't see any discussion on Blaupunkt 5.1 Wifi dashcam which is provided by Tata.

Can anyone share review for this model? Now we don't have to remove the card to view videos in this model. We can view in app.

How is the quality at day/night and number plate visibility?

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Folks,I DIY installed 70mai A510, is this normal to have glare from oncoming vehicles during the nights? (White streaks, sadly not able to upload the video) Number plate reading on moving vehicle is also not that great.

Is CPL filter the only option? Or any setting tweaks that others have applied (does 60hz help?)

Also not able to upload the .mov files, whats up with that?

Check if you've removed the plastic protector film in front of the lens completely, and that the lens is free of oil & fingerprint marks.

No everything is fine in that respect. No protective film over the lenses nor any fingerprints.

Thanks for all the reviews and feedbacks... I managed to find a link to the DashCamera Premium Store in Banashankari 3rd Stage in Bangalore on JustDial with an all-out 5.0 rating. Got the contact of Mr. Maghesh from there only to find out that the actual store is in Chennai and they are operating out of a home in Bangalore and he promised to get the door-step delivery and installation done. I looked at all their models and had almost finalized the 70mai 810 model.

And then i was comparing with similar models until i hit the Qubo website. It had a bold "Make in India" logo on it and the nationalistic ferver within me was awakened... After all Be Indian & Buy Indian should not only remain a slogan but should also be implemented in real life... I was checking for installation and called up their customer care number, they also promised a door-step delivery and installation at no extra cost. What's more is that they had sent their guy in the evening and since it was pretty dark outside I could not test the camera and I mentioned that let me test it in the morning and provide the feedback...

Bingo next day morning the bottom left corner view was getting blocked by my IRVM holder. Renault guys have a huge plastic block over there behind the RVM. I raised another complaint with the Qubo guys and they are sending another technician tomorrow morning to fix the camera position. I will let you know how it goes, but so far the performance has been good... I've gone for the DashCamera Pro 3K version of the Qubo camera...

More details from my year-end trip to Gujarat coming up later...

DIY - Adding an interior Dashcam to record events between my front and rear Dashcams

DIY - Adding an interior Dashcam to record events between my front and rear Dashcams, a 2+1 channel Dashcam setup

Even in a Dual Channel Dashcam setup, the events happening between front and rear cameras are completely left out. The need to have an interior camera kept growing in my mind, mainly for 2 reasons – capture those happy driving moments and have additional safety backup footage for the area between front and rear cameras.

As I have updated in this thread before, I have a dual channel Viofo A139 Pro 2CH Dashcam setup in my Fortuner. I am using it more than 1 year, and this camera can also support an additional 3rd channel, making it 3 Channel Dashcam. I only need to get the additional interior camera and cable then connect it. The additional interior camera cost approx. 5K INR. But I didn’t want to impact the recording quality and compromise the critical aspect of the main Viofo Dashcam, that is record Front and Rear footage consistently. I believe the Viofo Dashcam can get really overheated, SD card can get corrupted more frequently, and front video quality will surely be compromised, if I add the third channel to my Viofo A139 Pro. Hence decided that it will be a separate independent unit if I add my interior dashcam.

Also, the third channel is almost like a nice to have option, I didn’t want to spend more on this. As a relief, I had one extra 256GB SanDisk microSD card lying around, so that is saved. I wasn’t any particular about recording and video quality, glare issues, specifications of the cam or Starvis sensors etc, this being an interior camera.

During the research I came across few options for adding this camera. One option was to utilize my 8-year-old SJCAM SJ4000 Wi-Fi which is lying unused for last 1 year. However, that is too big and also, I wasn’t sure about it reliability now being too old version. Other option was to buy any other dashcam available in India.

I finally decided to go with Qubo Dashcam Pro X, which was running an offer during November 2024, its MRP was 5590 INR and offer price was 2990 INR, I found this to be cheaper than my MicroSD card’s price. I explored other options for a while and finally decided to take the plunge. Ordered it, and it got delivered in 3 days. I got it installed myself on the same day and found it to be decent for my needs.

The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread-img_7261.jpg
Anxious Unboxing

Working of My 2+1 Channel DashCam setups:
  1. Viofo A139 Pro 2 CH is hardwired. Front camera records footage in 4K resolution and rear camera records in HD. These 2 separate footages of 5 minutes are written on one 256GB MicroSD card on Viofo.
  2. Interior Qubo Camera is connected to the 12V socket and placed on windshield above IRVM. It records footage onto a 256GB MicroSD card of its own.
  3. Both the DashCams, have WiFi feature and they get turned-on automatically. So, it is easy to connect to respective Mobile Apps and view/transfer footages on a need basis.

Many other BHpians will be using Qubo Dashcams, so I am not planning to write a review. But I want to share few observations and my experience of setting up this cam.

Set-up Experience:
  1. First, Interior camera placement was most important. I need it to capture most of the cabin interior. I also didn’t want it to stand out, interfere with my Viofo field of vision. After few trials and error, decided that it will be placed above IRVM, without interfering IRVM’s movements.
  2. Then logical way to route the cable was through driver side A-Pillar. I had couple of other wiring going through A-pillar already, so I had to keep them properly tucked in and it took max 10 minutes.
  3. Qubo Dashcam came with an anti-static transparent film, I used it to fix the camera properly onto windshield. Connected the camera to the cable and turned on ignition, to test the camera and do the Dashcam setup.
  4. Setting up Qubo App was initially challenging. I was doing this in my apartment basement and due to poor network connectivity, the MobileApp was not able to complete the setup steps, even after 3-4 attempts. Finally, I decided to take the car outside to an open area having better mobile signal and it completed the setup in 2 minutes.
  5. Final step was to align the camera angle for better field of vision, hiding the remaining cable length, and checking recording footage quality and rest of MobileApp settings.

The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread-img_7262.jpg
Trying out different placement options

The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread-img_7263.jpg
Final placement where it is installed

The entire DIY setup took more than 30 minutes, most of the time was spent on camera placement and post-installation App setup.

Observations:
  1. Both Dashcams have Wi-Fi feature, that gets turned on automatically during startup. Viofo also connects to the mobile automatically, which is a nice feature. I always leave it like that, the Viofo DashCam get synced to the Mobile App always. Qubo Dashcam also has Wi-Fi, however it doesn’t get connected to phone automatically, which is also good in my case.
  2. Viofo records footages in 5 minutes loops, for both Front and Rear cam footages separately. Qubo captures the entire ride footage as one, and during download from MobileApp we can select the duration that we need. This is also good in my case, as I may rarely need the interior cabin footage, and use it for any critical purpose.
  3. Qubo footage quality isn’t great and comparable to Viofo footage quality. However, that is no deal breaker for me.
  4. This Qubo Dashcam doesn't have GPS, and I didnt need it also. My Viofo Dashcam has GPS so that covers the important part of the rides.

Screen Grab from one footage. Ignore the poor basement lighting & black interiors
