Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

The video quality on the 5K WYVE is pretty good (Sony Starvis). Here's a screen grab.

The screen goes into sleep mode after 5 minutes.
(Not sure if it is a good feature or not, as I'm used to having it ON all the time.) A kind of reassurance.
But happy that Indian R&D has come a long way.

There is a big difference in quality of Starvis & Starvis2. You could have got 70mai A510 at 10K with Starvis 2

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I'm OK with Starvis on this, with this resolution, as the screen is bigger/wider, and the controls on the right (not under the screen) are easy to operate. You lose some, you win some

See a screen grab of low light shot. Remember, on this car, I'm moving up from 720 P (very old cam).

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Looking for a dashcam for my Tucson (dual) but planning only for connecting via 12v. Have a few questions
- Any advantages of going for 70mai A810 vs A510? Is the main advantage only 4k?
- Are CPL filters mandatory? Dont see too many options on Amazon for this
- Any recommendations for Micro SD card size? Is 128GB fine?

Anything else to look out for?

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I had purchased a Viofo A229 Plus from their direct store.

Unfortunately while I had ordered this, back home the folks had already purchased another dashcam.

This left me with an unopened extra set. I explained to the seller that I stay out of town and had mistakenly ordered from them.

The kind people at Viofo arranged a reverse pickup and refunded the amount promptly. It was a positive experience.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I was just browsing and saw this new model launched by Qubo - https://www.quboworld.com/dashcam-pr...rvis2-rear-cam

Its the cheapest dual channel dashcam with Starvis 2 IMX 675 sensor (front only) and also claims to have a supercapacitor. Anyone bought this model ? The next best priced supercapacitor + dual channel + starvis 2 is Viofo A229 at 24k i believe.

70mai A510 is on discount on Flipkart right now. Usually 14k, available now for 12.5k.

If Starvis2 with super capacitor at 12k intro price, then its definitely damm cheap. But I have not read good reviews of Qubo. Let other experts comment. Any reviews available on youtube?

What is Qubo standard warranty? Do they provide extended warranty option?

Does CPL filter available for Qubo dashcams?

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Looks like days are coming for affordable "Starvis2 + Super Capacitor" combination dual channel models.

  • So far Viofo A229 Plus in 25k was the cheapeast model (+sd card cost additional), which is out of budget for most people
  • Last week Qubo launched Dashcam Pro 3k with Starvis2 in 12k (+sd card cost additional)
  • This week Redtiger launched F7N Elite touch with Starvis2 in 16k (free 128gb sd card included)

This was much required segment (starvis2 + super capacitor) so far very limited models available. Expected from other brands like 70mai, ddpai etc to launch similar models

After having owned 2 dash cams- one Qubo & other Woodman I can say that it’s a money waste on Qubo despite hefty discount that I got (courtesy my brother who has good contacts in retail supply chain of electronics). The app is cumbersome & it gets heated & display blacks out. With the woodman these issues are not there. The screen clarity is much better & recordings equally good.

Must say I’m not going to buy any Hero product ever in my life… totally fed up with underwhelming experiences with splendour & QuboPro 3k dash cam.

Redtiger, 70mai & Voifo are better the spends than Qubo in my opinion.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I recently went a bit mad a got a bit too deep into dashcam research. I was initially interested in the 70mai series but couldn't decide if the A510 would be fine or if I should spring for the A810. Overall I was hesitant to buy a dashcam with a battery instead of a super capacitor.

In the end, I ordered a dashcam from China which had a Starvis 2 Imx 678 in the front and Starvis 1 Imx 335 at the back, a super capacitor and whatever the good Novatek cpu was, I forgot the serial number.
It cost me 13.5k including customs duty.

During my search, I found that like pretty much everything technical that companies claim are from an Indian brand and Made in India is a lie and all the products that Qubo and Nexdigitron are selling based on these claims are actually made in China and imported.

Anyways, preliminary testing of the camera seems to have good video.

My question is, what is a good mounting location for the camera that won't obstruct my view ? The lens is on the right side of the unit. Initially I wanted to mount it on the black dotted section around the mirror. I can't do it on the right side because it might distract me and I have already pasted my Fastag there. The left side of the mirror won't work because of the lens location, I will have to stick it on the clear section of the glass.

I'm considering sticking it to the leftmost upper corner of the windshield under the passenger sun visor. Would that location give me an adequate POV coverage ? It should cover the lane to my left, my lane and also some of the divider/opposite lane right ? It would also be convenient to route the wires to the glovebox where I'm fitting and additional USB socket.

The rear camera will be mounted halfway between the HMSL and C pillar to avoid glare from the HMSL interfering as much while still giving me good coverage. Or should I move this closer to the C pillar too ?

I have a Redtiger F77 (Link) which has the lens on the left side of the unit. I placed it such that the lens is almost at the centre of the windscreen and just below the IRVM. F77 has a display which can show time & date so I leave it in that view to avoid distraction.

If your dashcam has a display with screen saver or time display you could do the same. Or turn of the screen to avoid distraction, but always better to keep it at the centre in the front and rear.

Hi Kelly66

Pls can you write a bit about the performance of Redtiger F77, both day time and night time quality of the videos, any niggles/issues you have faced so far.

Also have you hardwired it or plugged it in the socket? Just 2 days ago I was viewing this on their website. No doubt the dashcams specs are really good and some youtube video reviews kind of validate the claims made by Regtiger. But to have genuine user review will be really good.

Thanks in advance

P.S. If you have already posted your review, pls do share the link. Thanks

Hi, review is linked in my previous post.

Only issue I faced is when I parked my car at the airport for a whole day under direct sunlight, the front camera swivel screw got a bit loose because of the heat. I bought a Torq screw set and tightened it (Redtiger guys asked me to send it to Delhi at my cost and they would send it at theirs). The rear camera swivel holder was fine under the sun. Maybe it was a one-off issue.

I did not hardwire it.

It would be best to keep both cameras as close to centre as possible for proper coverage. In the upper left corner, you will likely miss out on anything happening to the right of the car. Put the front camera behind the IRVM to minimise chances of distraction. If it has a screen, the dashcam should have an option to record without the screen on. You can also try to turn off any LED indicators on the cam if possible.
I don't think there should be any issue with HMSL glare either. If the HMSL is on the top of the rear windscreen, just put the camera on the bottom, or vice versa. The rear camera cable is usually long enough. That way the camera will be in centre and also away from the HMSL

Can you elaborate on how you ordered from China? I thought sites like AliExpress were banned.
