thanks ported how much did you spend on that?? Whats the difference between 4950 and 6950?? |
I wouldn't know the difference between the two, since the 6950 never fell in my budget. My options were the 4950 and the 3950. The 4950 has more holes in the back (they are called pre-outs, I think) than the 3950 and the price difference is about 1k. I also liked the way 4950 looked, much better in the Swift dash. Mega overlook though, the cheaper 3950 has a more convenient Aux-In location, on the faceplate itself. The 4950 has it on the back of the head unit. I paid 5.7K for 4950 in grey.

this thread to understand more...
ps : In the comparison of headunits the seriess are 4900/5900 etc as it has the specs for the American market. Besides the radio everything else is the same...
Hey Guys. I just got a new black Swift VXi. And I need to put in a good sound system. Most of my cars come with OE stereos and I havnt done an ICE install in Chennai in a decade probably. Completely out of the loop. Anyway I want a good head-unit which is compatibel with my ipod. But I would prefer to control it with the ipod and not through the head unit. On our tucson dad put in an Alpine in Cochin and thats controlled via the head-unit, absolute pain. I would also like it to be MP3 compatible if at all I burn some CDs now and then. The Swift is mainly a second car so dont want to do amps and sub etc, cause it eats up boot space. But I want good crisp sound, decent bass and mids. If this is possible without subs etc. do let me know. Budget can be what you guys suggest for such a car and the usage that I mentioned. Im not stingy but prefer to make my decisions carefully which is why Im consulting you ICE gurus. So for good quality sound thats not over the top I'm open to suggestions. Car is a week old, just put on Lenso 16"s 4-Spokes with Good year 205/55/R16s and removed the rear mudflaps. Might do an air filter and a Remus exhaust if I can find a seller in Chennai and leave it at that.
P.S. Im based in Chennai so any suggestions of a good place to get the ICE done will also be much appreciated.

You got a budget? You can get a ood HU with 2 pre outs for 7K and up. Add a decent amp for another 7k aand upnd add 2 components and 2 coax for 10K and up, so for about 25K you can start with a good system. If you have a larger budget my friends here will be be glad to help.
What do you guys think is a good budget to have?

What a question:p. For ICE Gurus, the budget starts from 50K-60K and sky is the limit. And for somebody who is interested in decently euipping his car with a good SQ ICE, then 25K-30K should suffice !!!

Haha the Ice Gurus sound like some kinda mafia and or ganglords!
ultra_low_bass_maker you are absolutely right.......agree:
I am planning to buy Philips car speakers & Sony CDX-GT460US for Swift.
Anyone using Philips speakers?
There are 2 models 6 1/2 inch with model number AS-1702 and 5 1/4 inch with model AS-1502. Swift has only 6 inch provision for doors.
Which model or size can be fitted (6 1/2 or 5 1/4)?
Please tell your user experiance

Though often true, it's not written in blood. Even a person with 10K will get advice, as long as he is buying the best equipment within that budget.
The only thing we do, is laugh at poor and unbranded equipment. This we are guilty of. *hanging head in shame*

lol:
When I come across that favorite question- "what's the budget?", it somehow makes me feel as if I have entered a lavish showroom where it usually happens to be the first thing to talk about! Ignorance or sometimes even irritation (which salesmen or manager may try to hide, but mostly unsuccessfully) if your spending potential falls short of their expectations; and the joy of victory on their face when they succeed in stretching your budget beyond what you might have ever thought... You are probably the first one to ask an interesting cross question rather than getting embarrassed!
(just kidding...with due respect to all Gurus for their guidance/information provided here with absolutely no obligations whatsoever. I do agree that budget is an important deciding factor behind any purchase, which is especially true for very mysterious world of audio!)

The Gurus may suggest higher budgets but we at ICE have a Sticky dedicated to those with budgets less than 30K. We understand that 65% of the car owners do not change the OEM system. Of those that do (35%) 90% have budgets above 30K. So it is only 3.5% of car owners (10% of 35%) who spend in excess of 30K on ICE. This being an ICE forum you will find a disproportinate number of them here.
Worry not.
We are NOT snobs. Most of my friends have ICE systems under 30K. We do "cook a snook" at the unbranded (or unrecognised brands) though. The reason being is that many of these offer no QC or A.S.S (you will get A.S.S. for a Pioneer that is not under Warranty but you have to pay for it; for most "unbranded" equipment you get none).
If some of you care to visit the Gadgets section you will see that we discuss (positively) Indian brands of Audio such as Norge, Sonodyne, etc...becuase these manufacturers do offer A.S.S it is just that there is no known Indian manufactuer of ICE that is in the same league.
The reason we ask for a budget is
only as a guide. One can get a perfectly acceptable ICE system for 10K. I have recomended some of these myself (and many of the Gurus have too). If someone comes here asking for a ICE system we would like to know his/her budget, musical preferences, if he/she is willing to sacrifice the space for a sub (esp true for hatchbacks).
Example: My FIL has a Swift, His system is a simple HU + 4 coax and a small 4 ch amp (cost 25K). LBM has a Swift and we all know what his system is. Now if my FIL posted here for suggestions and he got recomendations for a system like LBMs he be confused and irratated and might forget the idea of ICEing his car altogether. So that is why we need to know
THE BUDGET.
