128Kbps sound fine because you loose out on detail as you lower the bit rate. Never judge the sound of any equipment on MP3 media.

depending on the application of the sound file- 128 Kbps is the benchmark anything below it sounds distorted and anything above needs a great Setup..!
As for Music on my K 700 I convert the MP3 into the MP4 Codec which saves me 50 % the file size as compared with a similar MP3 song...And keeps the same quality of 128 Kbps..!

96 Kbps MP4 Codec - 128 Kbps MP3

Hmm coming back to the ICE Setup for the XETA...I figured out most new systems people have bought or inquired about have the Sub Out option or are I-Pod ready...I don't need any of these options so is their a HU available without them..I'm sure it will be cheaper by some percentage.

The MDF tray I understand is a better quality Parcel Tray made of wood, so as to fit speakers better...! How much does this cost..!

Also I will also need a Good Rear View Mirror- The one in the XETA is to small for me...I rather have a much wider and better view..are these available in the market- What are costs and Any recommended brand...!

Still waiting for ICE Information Panky Bhai...!

Good to learn that u r NOT a scotch/whiskey person but yaar, vodka is for ladies! mard bano! and Mild seven (japanese i guess) is again too mild (made for ladies!) Ok....coming to ur ICE queries now.

HU: as indicated by you, if u want an original one....go for cheapest model of Sony @ 5K app that plays MP3.

Dash : Tweeters @ 200 for chinese....it'll give u bit of highs! conceal them under the dash location.

Doors: Go for "heavy magnet" speakers from Lajpat Rai @ 250....no pioneer comes for 400.

Rear Fill: Go for original Sony @ 2300; they will not "fade" in sunshine!!

Parcel Tray: go to any carpenter yaar, ask double lakkad ki tray chaiye....u will get a SOLID tray for 200. (park ur car elsewhere, remove all ur chains, bracelets etc and go in ur worst worn-out jeans and t shirt to be in a better bargain position!) as for rigidity..... even if I sit on that (if I fit) it'll NOT bend....thats another thing ur "side hinges" will break! negotiate with him and he'll fit it for u as well. FREE!

Installs etc: 50 for lighter and 0 for installation when u get it installed from the guy u buy the system (HU + speakers) from. wires come free with speakers.

Total : HU (5000) + tweeters (200) + speakers (door- 250) + speakers (2300) + tray (200) + lighter (50) = 8000

Side view mirror: Indica mirror is good by all stds (though not big), go in for a small convex patch @ 60 from the car accessory wala. I have it on my indica and ONLY look into that for traffic. it wd eliminate ur blind spots to a gr8 extent if u tab it on the rt place. (extreme rt in my case). one more suggestion, u can bargain this for free while bargaining the total amount. (do it in the end).

Wolla! that has 2 effects: 1. my party is gone . 2. u r happy to have it ur budget!

lastly, if u have any issues as to where to get it done @ prices, I wd guide u. BTW, where r u putting up in Delhi? Also, if u can further strech ur budget, ask my delhi based guru, gunbir.

Panky yaar, go easy on the Johnny walker

For 12K, Get yourself a decent HU, Pioneer/Blau/Sony this would cost about 5.5K.
Get yourself 2 6" coaxial speakers for the front and rear at about 3K each. You can buy any speakers (avoid Sony)
Preferably buy speakers from a specialist manufacturer.
For 500 bucks you can get a decent MDF tray for the rear to mount the speakers on. Baaki bacha panky, we'll handle him.

All the best.

sam bhaiya, u r forgetting that 12K is including the gear lock, and few other things u r overlooking: lighter, side view mirror, tweeters.

for 12K for ICE, YES its one of the best possible set-ups (as u suggested!)

Thanks Sam Sir..Panky..!

Was a Classic - Gold Flake Lights- Mild Seven Lights convert...! Baki Allergic to whiskey..bas isi liye..! lol

I'm in Sarita Vihar...I know the shops you're talking about in Lajpat Nagar..!

Yeah! I will contact you again, once my baby arrives in the coming week...!

I need the Internal Rear View Mirror..outside one is fine enough...Its the Inside one that appears like Chotu as compared with the view I get in the Lancer...!

So MDF Tray- Hmm...Let me see...! I rather not break anything...!

I've heard sound on both a Sony Setup and Pioneer..Both Basic entry models..However the former in Esteem and latter in a Indigo...! Found them both good enough but nothing compares in my ears to a Kenwood or Blaupunkt..!

I heard JVC speakers go cheap..Should I consider them also..!

Theek hain, so that settles it almost..ICE under 8000 then its Panky's method..! Real cost saver..lol..! Party Main doonga..aapko no issues..!

Its Lajpat Rai (chandni chowk opp lal quila) and NOT lajpat NAGAR, if u go to lajpat nagar....u wont find EVEN a single shop like that!

View from Internal mirror wd still be better in a merc. dont compare two uncomparable! as for economy, install 2 convex patches....one on each side. it wd solve the purpose. may be u can get a view equal to a maybagh.

JB, I am using all my retrain in getting techy about MP3. Besides there are 2 other reasons not to.

1. this has been discussed on another thread.
2. Sam will start screaming NAHEEEE again!

BTW I wholly agree that MP3 source is not critical enough to be used to tune/judge a system yet given the format's capabilities and the enviorment in a moving car (esp in traffic) MP3 is a good enough medium to use for general listening and for being able to carry your entire music collection around.

I come from a time when we made compromises when listening to car audio. Our home systems used LPs (Records) and most car systems used Cassette. So using MP3s in a car is not heart wrenching a decision for me. :-) Till the time when we get 200GB ipods (expected mid 2008) I will be stuck to using MP3s (VBR compression about 5:1) for most of my car listening. After which I would switch to a "mathematically lossless" format with a compression of about 2:1. Yes by mid 2007 expect a 100-120GB ipod and by mid 2008 (or even late 2007) expect a 160-200GB version.

That said Vivek, I think you could do better if you used your tech skills and made better MP3s. I think you know the tools required (EAC, LAME etc..).

Speakers actually do that? Even David Blaine can't do that!

Hindi from the north never ceases to fascinate me.
