New ICE Setup advice!!!

Hi all,

For all who dont know about my old Ford Escort ... here is the story. It met with a serious accident in which it broke its headlight, front and Rear bumper, A/C regulator and Fan, Windshield, car ignition system , etc etc and most importantly the "Engine Beds". Finally after 3 months of tiring hunting i got the beds!!! (YIPPY!!!). Now tomorrow the beds are going to be fit in and paint job etc and finally in another weeks time my car will be in front me with new clothes!!!During the accident the damn villagers stole the car HU and speakers. I thank them a lot coz those were the original Ford Accessories which were total crap.

Now that my car is gonna be done up, I will sell it after 1 month say in July or August and i will buy a new Swift or an Old Lancer or some other car at that time.

Now coming to the main part of this thread. Sorry if I bored you with all that "Ramayana" I wrote above

Now I want put a new HU and speakers in my Escort, good ones. One question......when i buy the new car... i can easily transfer these components to my new car right???

Ok now i have a max budget of 9k for the HU and regarding the speakers am not sure about the budget coz i gotta speak to my dad. But dont take it for granted that i spend loads of moolah on the audio comps. Firstly which HU should i go for? I want to look very attractive and trendy and it MUST be MP3 and have an AUX-in and much better if a USB too. It must have superior richness in sound quality not just some crappy player which blurts every now and then at high bass.

And regarding the speakers.....I want a nicely "BASSY" ICE!!!! Am kinda of a guy who pumps his system up and go around the neighbourhood showing off the power of audio underneath my Hood!!! I guess u got ma point. So i actually thought to put all comps as JBL. But i need the price and costs of em.

Now this doubt is always there with me. Is a sub or amp necessary for that bassy effect coz some told me to put a amp and sum said that just the normal coax speakers are enough. Plz through some light on this.

I guess JBL is very nice in terms of audio quality (One of the best) so, i have done some homeword regarding these and have got three setup options, if u have anything better plz mention so.

*** All the given below setups are with respect to JBL ***

Setup I :-

4ch Amplifier + Front Components + Rear Coax Speakers (6.25") + JBL Bass Tube (Monster Cable) = 35k

Setup II :-

Frnot Components (JBL 606 - 5k) + Rear Coax Speakers (JBL 636 - 3.5k) + 4ch Amplifier (JBL 60.4 - 9k) = 17.5k

*** is the 5k for JBL 606 and 3.5k for JBL 636 per speaker? .... i mean suppose if i pay 5k, do i get 2 JBL 606 (pair) or i get the pair if i pay 10k? ***

Setup III :-

6" coax in all doors (4 x JBL 636 .... 7k) + Amp & Sub (8k) --- 1200T Sony 502

*** Now the same doubt .... 7k for one JBL 636 or all 4? ***

Now I got the above setup info from some other threads. Now I am waiting for all your replies!!!

I got a Sony Xplod CDXGT-250S which has Aux In( On The HU)..! Rs.4800( Grey) - Rs.7600 ( With Bill/ Warranty offered by Sony India)...! But I don't think its a model you're looking for with such a Hi-Fi ICE setup...its more of a base entry...! You can however look for more models in Sony's New Xplod Series and Pioneer's...!

Hi, Welcome to the ICEans' club!

Seems like you've gotta read more of the ICE section to actually become more of an ICE guy. (Dont worry, You'll soon be ICE graduated).

Regarding your case, I'd recommend an AMP + SUB setup for you. You wanna shake your neighbourhood right? Go for 2 Subs and 2 Amps.

You should go in for:

Setup A: (Rs. 32200 +/-)

HU : Pioneer 6850. (Rs. 8000 +/-)
Front : 6" Co-axials or Triaxials (Rs. 3500 +/-)
Rear : 6"X9" Oval Co-axials or Triaxials (Rs. 4000 +/-)
Amp : Sony XM504 4channel Amp (Rs. 8000 +/-)
Sub : 2 Pioneer DVC 12" Subwoofers in Bandpass or dual ported MDF box. (Rs. 6000 +/- for sub and 2000 +/- for box)
(Each driven by the 4 channel amp (2 channel bridged for 1 sub).
Cabling : Even a Boss kit will do as you're not worried about SQ. (Rs. 700+/-)

Setup B: (Rs. 28,200 +/-)

HU : Pioneer 2850 (Rs. 4000 +/-)
(Rs. 700+/-)

But I assure you, You'll soon get tired of this ' showing around stuff ' or you should be really hot in your head to do that till you get OLD enough. Whatever it is, you'll one day become mature enough to stop it (And your neighbours will be glad that day).

Then you'll look for something like this:

Setup C:
Speakers : A nice set of components for the front.
Amps for Subwoofers : A good monoblock or a branded 4 channel amp.
Amps for speakers : 4 channel amp (Branded again).

You'll just yearn to throw away the Ovals and will replace it with components or move your current front speakers (co-axials) to rear if money is a constraint then.

So let me suggest something you can keep for some long times to come.

Setup D:
HU : Pioneer 6850 (snazzy enough and sounds decent)
Front : JBL 606 or 607
Rear : 6" Co-axials like JBL 6536 etc..
(Can be powered from the HU for time being)
Amp : 4 Channel amp like JBL GTO 75.4 or Sony 504
(Use 2 channels to drive the SUB and other 2 to power the compos)
Sub : JBL GTO series 12" or similar
Cabling : JBL cabling all around

This setup is something I would buy if I was in your place.

Ok, I've put my 5 cents in. And more expert advice will follow soon from the GURUS!!!

A correction here guys!

I'm correcting this setup. I made a mistake in configs of Setup B. It should read like this :
Setup B: (Rs. 26,200 +/-)

HU : Pioneer 2850 (Rs. 4000 +/-) or 6850 if you want something better for double the price.
Front : 6" Co-axials (Rs. 1500 +/-)
Rear : 6"X9" Oval Co-axials or Triaxials (Rs. 2500 +/-)
Amp : 3 fake Alpine (or any name printed) 2 channel amps (Rs. 2000 +/- each 3X2000 = 6000 +/-)
Sub : 3 Pioneer DVC 12" Subwoofers in Bandpass or heavily ported MDF box. (Rs. 9000 +/- for subs and 2500 +/- for box)
(Each driven by a 2 channel amp (2 channel bridged for 1 sub).
Cabling : Even a Boss kit will do as you're not worried about SQ. (Rs. 700+/-)

This is something we call : BANG FOR the BUCK!
& Remember, only bang and nothing else here. Dont ask for stability, clarity, Fidelity type of questions here. Just Boom Boom, Bang Bang.

Speedzak ...thanx a lot for ur opinions....i really appriciate ur help.

In the Setup A, Front : 6" Co-axials or Triaxials (Rs. 3500 +/-)
Rear : 6"X9" Oval Co-axials or Triaxials (Rs. 4000 +/-)
---- is that price per piece or the pair?

Amp : Sony XM504 4channel Amp (Rs. 8000 +/-) ---- Is the JBL better?

Sub : 2 Pioneer DVC 12" Subwoofers in Bandpass or dual ported MDF box. (Rs. 6000 +/- for sub and 2000 +/- for box) ---- u mention or so any of the two.... which is better and again 6000 for one piece right?

I really dont put on the music all 24/7 on high blast. If i listen at high blast for more than 5 hour i get Synesis So when am with my mom or at times i will listen at normal pace too.

So i want a setup which gives amazing clarity in the normal playby mode and also at high volumes in nice bass. BTW i dont want the speakers to BLURT like those cheap ones that do at high bass volumes.

The Setup D is impressive.... but u did not mention the prices!!!!

Front : JBL 606 or 607 -----Which one and how much do they cost?

HU : Pioneer 6850 ---- Cost?

Rear : 6" Co-axials like JBL 6536 --- Price again...

Amp : 4 Channel amp like JBL GTO 75.4 or Sony 504 --- Which among the two?

Sub : JBL GTO series 12" ---- Cost.

Ans: All major brands (except some really high exotic brands you wont get in india) Price their speakers in pairs. So, whenever a price is quoted for speakers, it's for a set of speakers. If it's co-axials, tri-axials etc. then it'll be for pairs. If it's components, then it'll include 2 Woofers (mid), 2 tweeters(high) and 2 crossovers.

Quote:
Amp : Sony XM504 4channel Amp (Rs. 8000 +/-) ---- Is the JBL better?
Ans: Yes, I think so.

Ans: ??? "or so... which is better..." I cant understand your question.
A Pioneer DVC Sub normally costs around Rs.3000. You should get 2 of those for your BIG BANG needs.

But Ready to spend some serious dough on that??? Speaking of lacs and not thousands. Ask KB100 for help on this (Spending lacs on car audio is more beautifully executed by him I think).

I dont sell these thingys. So, I can only type in the prices I know.

Quote:

Ans: around 6k for 606 I've heard.
Quote:

Ans:Open your EYES!! GRRRR it's mentioned earlier : around 8000. (This is for a single unit)

Quote:

No idea. You can contact SAM GURUJI for JBL prices. (Price of anything exotic are well known by him I suppose. And I mean just not speakers)

Quote:
Amp : 4 Channel amp like JBL GTO 75.4 or Sony 504 --- Which among the two?
Ans: Count your bucks. And decide. JBL recommended again.

Quote:
Sub : JBL GTO series 12" ---- Cost.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm.... Pl help out SAM Jeeeee.

Front : JBL 606 or 607 -----6k or so

HU : Pioneer 6850 ---- 9.2k (grey)

Rear : 6" Co-axials like JBL 6536 --- 4.5k max

Amp : 4 Channel amp like JBL GTO 75.4 or Sony 504 --- JBl 13k or so

Sub : JBL GTO series 12" ---- should be within 5k i think

and for a sub, I would suggest a box or tube. Why? coz they come in their own designed boxes/tube and hence would be perfect.

forgot, do spend some decent amount of money on RCA cables, power cables, fuse, and if possible soem dynamat/wurth stuff. ( 3k+)

edit: show off setup? . get 6x9 at rear. get a good mono block for you sub. If you cant afford, get Pio 6100(7k) or Pio 944 (11k?) or jbl gto 75.4. Power frnt compos frm amp. and power sub frm teh left over 2 channel in bridged mode.

or 60.4 for all speakers and sony 502 for sub or jbl cs60.2 or jbl cs301.1

better to have a setup where you have stuff frm same company.

edit agaiN! sony if you are tight. else jbl.

The JBL Front Comps and Rear JBL is perfect. HU any branded with Aux in,

Not sure about the amp though... shud i go for the JBL or Sony?????

Sub : JBL

Cabling : JBL Bass Tube ..... Monster Cable

Now lemme see what happens.... I guess thats makes up a total of around 30-35k

Go for the JBL amp.

Why is Bass tube showing up in your cabling?
Bass tube is a certain type of Subwoofer and is designed for more SPL than SQ. But it's sometimes better than a normal SUB Box.

Monster Cable
Yes it'll make us grin when we hear the cost.
