DIY: Double DIN HU install in a Chevy Beat I had decided to upgrade to a double din Head unit in my Chevy Beat and visited few of the shops I know in JC Road. I was looking for a budget unit with no specific brand in head. I inquired about models in the 8-10k price range, must requirements were - Digital Media player which can play any AV format
- Touch Screen
- Blue tooth
I shortlisted a Dapic head unit(always like to try new things) with 1 year warranty, I have been using a Dapic digital media player in Accent for close to 2 years now and its been working fine. I had to buy the fascia also for Beat which cost INR 1600/- which I later realized is not required and no where near the original fascia. The double-din connector on the Dapic head unit turned out to be a plug and play like fit with Beat's OEM connectors, but the real work was in fixing the unit in the dashboard with the new center console. The performance of the player has been good with good sound and picture quality, FM reception quality is exceptional even in remote areas, remote control looks like of a TV, the head unit has a built-in safety feature to disable video for the driver which has to be reset, the unit can support 2 additional displays and a rear view camera. The unit has 4.1 channel connectivity, it can play from DVD/VCD/MP4/USB/SD Card and also has a steering wheel remote interface. The display brightness is limited and looks dull in daylight but good for night-drive. The original fascia itself can be used as the fit and finish will be good compared to after-market one which leads to rattling of dashboard. The Dapic unit is now doing duty on Swift as I sold my Beat last week. The last image shows Head unit fitted to original fascia. A step by step illustration shared below
Cost: INR 8700 for the player and INR 1600 for center console.
