No, I don't think so!
Those HUs are more expenisve! Even grey market prices should be around 13k+.

on the beat !

Was busy with work so didn't venture out to audition stuff...Yesterday got a chance to visit a shop myCAR, kindly suggested by Gunbir, in Gurgaon DLF .

The shop guy after desperately trying to sell me the sony series of HU and xplod sepakers mentioned that only the Sony, Blau series(he had the 2006 series) and the Pio 4850 was with B&W.
For the records Maui MP36 (update on the Moneterrey MP35) was Rs8950 with B&W...He said he would give it for Rs8400.
Pio 4850 was for Rs8950 with B&W.And as per him his hottest selling model Pio 3850 was for Rs5100 (grey).
Moved on to speakers and asked for JBL,I'd a hunch he wouldnt stock Hertz and was proven right.
He mentioned that JBL CS series 130mm coax wer available for Rs2500 but with no bill and his own warranty !!
He didnt have any demo sets save the sony setup and said if I bought a HU then he would fit the same and wire different speakers for me to audition.

Will check out the other shop soon.
Hey Sam don't you have authorised dealers in Gurgaon area?

Shortlist

I've to select between these HU's..looking for SQ and going to use w/o amps and subs for now.....basically going to pair with hertz/jbl speakers(as mentioned earlier.)

Alpine CDE-9843
Alpine CDE - 9846 (really dont know what the diff. is between 9843 and this but the additional $20 price)
Clarion DXZ465MP
Clarion DXZ655MP

Opinions?

I have not heard it but based on some reports I'd look at the 655.

I did some research on web recently and found that the difference between these two is only cosmetic. 9843 is getting replaced with 9846 in US market and hence you get a discount on it.
I bought the 9843 in Pune last week for Rs 8500 with b/w and am happy with it. Great sound (should I call it SQ?) with the JBL 606ce.

An Alpine US press release report
http://www.alpine-usa.com/company_in...506_huenab.htm

and my 2 paise;

Those who buy Alpine jsut for the brand name sake: CDE 9843/9846 has just one preamp out and hence if you are seriously looking at upgrading ICE in teh future, look at other company models with 2/3 outs at similar price.

I fully agree with JK. You need to plan your system keeping in mind the future upgrades. ICE components have pathetic resale value and I feel none of your investment in it should go waste even if your budget doesn't allow you to do the complete installation now.
