Re: Transcend DrivePro 200 Review - Dash Cam / DVR

Hi Ken,

Thanks for this review and our discussion at facebook. I found Transcend to be a better choice among other products in terms of wide angle, price and reliable brand. Though I have a Gopro 3+ Black Edition for my action shots this one stands out to be a pure dash camera. I'm looking at few phone holders that can happily host this camera on the wind shield.

Total pocket damage is $138.14 (shipped to a US address). Most probably by end of this month I will fix it in my Fortuner.

Update. The previous order had to be cancelled since DP200 went out of stock. Ordered again from Amazon.in on 21st.
Was delivered today evening by Delhivery.
Checked it out briefly in my car. 1080p Video quality and the 160 deg wide angle is super awesome.
Will post detailed review once I check it out leisurely coming Sunday.

2. Self-adhesive mount only. And very plastiky/flimsy mount. No options for other mounts even.

3. No waterproof case, not even available as option. Obviously its a dash cam after all.

Final Words
Lowest Price I could find was 11k+ on ebay.in . Price is comparable as Amazon UK it costs #92. and US $199. Came to me for free at the moment but the guy says it will cost about 10.2k.
Hi just to update, not having a battery is a blessing since there is no worries of battery heating up.

Suction mount from Transcend is available on Amazon.in. I bought one for Rs.540/-.

The current price on Amazon.in is Rs.9950/-.

Thanks.

What about date/time settings? Does it stay or get erased after you shut off (no power) the car. Setting date/time each time before using will be very irritating thing to do.

Yeah, have to check that, but as per Techmoan review it stays for about 3-4 days.

Re: Transcend DrivePro 200 Review - Dash Cam / DVR

SirAlec, totally off topic, but while watching your night driving video on Youtube, I noticed that your left headlight throw is shorter on low beam and longer on high beam than the right side headlight. Are the wires switched by any chance? I mean does the left hand low beam come on when you switch to high beam and vice versa?

I am using bosch wiring harness over the original.
and beam hardly matters as we live in hills.

This is the reason why i opted for the DP100 instead of DP200. I read about this issue being reported when i read the review of this dashcam.

Does all dashcams with a capacitor and no battery lose the time and date settings if not being used for 3 - 4 days?

I checked it. I use my car only on weekends. So when I start my car every Saturday the set date and time is still available. So, in my case I can confirm that settings remain atleast for a week.
