More questions

As suggested by you guys, I went to the installer and wanted to try out JBL 426/kicker4" compos connected to the Amp..

But to my surprise these guys said that the high power amp (sony 504) will blow out the small powered front speakers. Is this true? I was so surprised and I came back without doing anything.

Experts, please advise!

gain settings allow you match the level of your speakers. they are used to fine tune front/rear levels but by setting the gain low you can make sure that no matter how high you turn the HU the amp wont deliver enough power to damage your speakers.

BTW it is easier to blow out a speaker (esp a tweeter) using less power than more power. When you use too little power the amp will CLIP. when an amp CLIPs it produces a lot of high frequency energy. Tweeters are not designed to handle that and quitely die. woofers on the other hand will complain (bad distorted sound) before dying.

I hope this explanation is simple enough. If so Sam would be pleased.

thanks Navin..
I currently have a Sony504 amp connected to my rear speakers GTO936.
I was thinking to connect the amo to the front speakers as well (GTO426).

Now, my question- Is there any probs with the above setup?
What should be the gain setting on the amp for the above setup to deliver optimum performance?

it is purrrffectly fine. If I could I would ahev even powered mine with Pio 6100 amp.

abt tuning, emm, hope your installer is a good guy at it. If you doubt him ( well, your gain thingy screw will by set at full or so), read that post by kureti, post doubts, experiment, use your years or/and easier way is to go to a good installer recommended by other Hyd tbhpians

The above setup has no probs. This is the way people connect thier front and rear speakers on a 4 channel amp...

I was browsing and I found only 1 4" kicker component model ES4.2
Do you think this will be a better bet than GTO426?

Actually, the kicker 4" comp I couldn't find in the shops I searched. So I have to order it. Ppl who have listened to both please advise.

When you use a LOW powered amplifier (or in navin's words, too little power) to turn the volume up, you will overdrive the amp, driving it into clipping mode. It is easier to blow a speaker with this, than with a higher powered amplifier.

I currently have GTO936 at the rear connected to the amp.
At front, I have crappy sony speakers provided free by the dealer.

So currently, the sound is pretty good, bass is nice but I want a little more clarity. Also, it is very rear-heavy and almost no sound coming out of the front.

So I am going to get better speakers at the front...and hook them to the amp. I have a limitation of size though - 4"
So I am looking at the following ones:
1. Kicker 4" comp ES4.2
2. JBL GTO 426/ P452

I have only heard the JBL GTO426 one and its good.
But the other ones are not available at the accessory shop.
So, if I want any of those, I need to order...

So, Guyz please advise as to which one will be the better choice
