No issues Navin. There aren't any reviews on the Focal P30's as well so I will not risk buying it.

I've spoken to the dealer in Chennai for the Kappa 120.9 , right now he doesn't have stock and asked to call back 1st week of next month , so fingers crossed.

If I'm not lucky I will go with either the Rockford Fosgate P3 12 or 10 inch which has outstanding reviews.

I have little trust in review of the magazines and internet websites. They often get paid to write good ones. I have a few trusted friends (who also know my tastes) and my own ears.

Perceptions and aural sensitivities differ amongst different people. What to someone else sounds superb, may actually sound commonplace or worse for you. Best is to audition and trust only your own ears (and what lies in between), or those of a set of people who have the same reference for an objective comparison (as Navin described). Subjective comparison usually leads to disappointment and 'buyer remorse'!

Strangely I've ordered the 165 AS ( somehow I just liked the way it looked ) , now waiting for it to arrive ,. I hope it sounds better than the S2 or it's just waste of my money

I prefer the later.
How many meters of the Polycab power cable do I need to order ? If I don't get this , Can you suggest me some other good cables that I can buy from ebay or amazon india ?

Please suggest good cables from Amplifier to speakers and one cable from my Pioneer amp to the Mono block amp and one between the mono amp and subwoofer.

For damping I'm thinking of going with Dampmat Flex , hope it'll be enough.

I definitely agree but as I mentioned before , these speakers are not available near me for auditioning. If I have to buy just by auditioning I can only choose from JBL , Pioneer and Sony.

I just got to trust some reviews and Navin and be contended with what I get , I'm sure it will be infinitely better than the 3 brands I mentioned above.

So I've just received my 165 AS Focal speakers. Yippee , pretty excited

ICE'ing up my Hyundai Verna-img_5724.jpg

I'm still confused with choosing the sub's though. Status as below

1) Infinity Kappa 120.9 W - Difficult in finding one , no one seems to have it

2) Focal SB P30 sub - This is available for around 15,000 Rs. I enquired with some owners ( 2 owners ) and all say it would be excellent for my kind of use. I'm still sceptical since it's ported.

3) Rockford Fosgate P3D412 - Not able to find it anywhere yet.

4) Rockford Fosgate P3D410 - This is the older model with 400 watt RMS and some say it's better than the newer 500 Watts models even. It's available for 8,500 Rs.

5) Morel Primo 124 Sub - I chanced to chat with a dealer from ************* and he told me for my application this would be the better sub compared to the ones above. Obviously he would say it since he's the dealer for that brand . hope he's not here on our forum Price : 13,430 Rs.

I have heard the Morel Primo (I have their Ultimos). They are pretty good. The Infinity 120.9 if memory serves me right were better (again these were in 2 different systems, yet I would have gone with the 120.9 if it were available)

Having not heard the Focal P30 I cant comment. Another option might be Polk's Momo.

I'm loosing hope in the Infinity Kappa 120.9 W , seems like even the distributor does not have it

I'm now deciding between the Morel Primo , Rainbow SL S12 and Rainbow DL S12. Which one do you think is a VFM option wrt to SQ and punch ?

Go for the DL S12 as it has a single 4ohm voice coil. The SL S12 has 2 x 2ohm coils and is designed to be wired in series for 4 ohms or parallel for 1 ohm (yes there are some mad monoblock amps that are stable to 1ohms). Your amplifier is not one of these so stick to the DL S12 or Morel Primo.

I actually changed my mind on the amplifier , planning to go for the Rainbow Beat 1 amp. Will this amp support the SL - S12 and make it sound better than the DL ? I'm just waiting for your word and will get it ASAP.

Did you check with Haresh Jethwani? Though he pushes Focal products but I sourced my 120.9 from him last year in November'14.
Costed around Rs. 9400/-(Not sure about current prices)
Haresh - 98-41-197787
