Harrie, i suggest you do what Sam tells you to do first. And then if all ekse fails he will defineately suggest a solution to your problem.

Its better I dont say much about my ICE. ;)

I am planning to upgrade my system pretty soon. So will change everything then. Till then is there a make shift solution?

Damn So I am not the wonly one. My ICE starts whining when the engine is running & no whine when engine is off, It also increases when I accelarate :|

This started after I gota aux cable mod done, I guess the Installer messed up with cables x(

@sideways: whats with aluminium foils tell me as me not in a position to change cables if needed :(

Somedays back I had talked about a cheap RCA alternate. It was soe spannish company (orange sheath) that costs about 1/2 that of Belden. Forget the name. Sam knows it. Anyway I suggest this wire as the minimum quality.

Another idea I got from my brother in law is to use shielded micrpphone cable to make RCA wires. microphoe cable is designed to reject noise given it is used in noisy (PA) envronments and signal source levels are in the order of mV.

My installer recommends Monster Interlink Jr. becuase she is too busy to roll her own wire or XOs. Damn some people as even lazier/busier than me. :-) Just kidding.

Well I had the same problem too when the car was installed with the ICE and had the original Exide battery. At nights with Lights, A/C, ICE on I could hear some faint alternator whine. Talked to my installer & he installed a larger Panasonic Battery and the problem disappeared.

Now it was replacement time & i couldn't find the same size battery in stock & had to use the standard size & so the whine is back again. Planning to change it today to the bigger size & getting rid of the whine hoepfully.

emm, I too had the whine problem, but it was rectified when I switched to Connection Audison RCAs.

I am just a poor little engine vengine type going around with a so so ICE. No temptations please. I really need to save up for a suspension upgrade. :)

I had a similar whining problem too in my car. Changed cables, shifted XO position et al. Finally PMed the master himself who advised me to wrap the wires / XO with aluminum or copper foil (very hard to find) and voila whine gone.

Actually I had already done this on my jeep when I installed a rally computer, which has an extremely sensitive probe which converted mechanical motion into electrical pulses. And any Goddam electrical interference would reset the computer. Spoke to the chappy's in London who make the equipment and they suggested that i wrap every electrcal cable coming to the computer with aluminum foil. I thought they were absolutely nuts but gave it a shot - and wonder of wonders it worked.

Basically it is a cheap way of shielding cables. I do not know too much about the subject and would request you to approach Navin / Sam for any further technical details.

I am more the engine vengine type of guy.

sideways, read up on "Faraday's cage" to know more about shielding.
A shield is just what the name says, it does not allow Electromagnetic/Electric/Magnetic waves/noise to interfere with the current carrying cables.

any good conducting metal would act as a sheild against electric fields. Any current carrying wire produces an electric field which will interfere with any other current carrying wire. So you shield the wire you want to protect.

For magnetic fields you would need a ferro metal.
For EM shields you would require material depending upon the frequency. In the radio freq range copper is used, but now poymers are coming forth as better alternative.

Aluminium also does fine, but of the commonly avaiable material, the best would be copper, but since aluminuim foil is easy to get, it is used extensivelty.

didnt they use to have those 'caps' that go onto the plugs in the engine to kill the whine !? i had them donkeys years ago on a fiat. they were very effective and i think they cost around Rs.400-500 back then. do they still make those...?! how come new cars dont require these thingies....!? are u guys aware of these and do they still exist ?!
