Hi retch.
The reason behind a MDF board is one: Much thicker than the rear shelf material hence holds a speaker much better. 2: It works as baffle. The same mounting concept as we have in our (most) home audio speakers. It prevents speakers from jarring. Since yuo've place above the struts you may consider fabicating seperate enclosure for your speakers. But remember a rear MDF mounted speaker set up also uses the boot as an enclosure which is anyway bigger than a small box.
Hope it'll help you to take a call.
Cheers.

Thanks GTO and Rudra. Hey GTO, maybe you can take a look at the car and suggest what I should do.

Hi bharanidharang, welcome to T-BHP! By head unit, we mean the actual stereo which is placed in your dashboard. the part where you insert your cassettes or CD's. A full system for Rs.10,000/- would be tough. The way I see it, you have 2 options
1. Go in for a cheap head unit and spend more on the speakers
2. Go in for a good head unit (about 6-7 thousand) and go cheap on the speakers. Upgrade when you get the finances at a later date.

Actually, after thinking a bit, I feel you could get a decent system for your car for 10G's.

Now I hope GTO or Rudra helps me out here, as they are more in the know on this, but I think you can pick up a decent Sony or Pioneer head unit for about Rs.5000-6000. That leaves you 4,000 for speakers, which should be enough for a decent pair. Maybe start off with 2 three-way speakers for now, and add 2 more later.

I have only really used Pioneer, which i find cheaper (as they are grey market stuff) than the "official' Sony or Alpine systems. BUT, make sure you get original Pioneers, because the assembled stuff looks really good these days!

Hey bharanidharang,

A good music system for Rs10K shouldnt be to difficult to set up at all.
2 questions for you -
i- What car are you planning to put the system in?
ii- Do you want a tape deck, in dash cdplayer, or, in dash mp3 cdplayer? (Keeping in mind your budget!)

cheers
Rehaan.

my first option would be to put a mp3 player... but dont know if my budget would allow it. so anything would do if the system performance is decent....

hey man, the 4650 should be much cheaper than 9grand. I bought a 5550 for 9 grand 1 year ago, so I'm sure the prices have fallen since then. But yea, the 4650 is a good stereo. Should be around 7000-8000 though, not more.

Check this out

Bharani,

You can go in for a Pioneer entry level in-dash MP3 player. Prices start at 6500. Hooking this head-unit up to a pair of Pioneer 6990's (Rs. 300) will provide you with excellent sound.

Once you have the additional cash, you can put in an amplifier, and this combo will provide you all the quality and quantity you want.

Before u get excited, thats a typo
GTO means Rs 3,000/-

Along with what GTO suggested, you might wanna consider puttin in another Rs 1K-1.5K and getting speakers up front as well as they will help giving you a better field of sound.

Check some stores out and get an idea of pricing, fyi- when looking at amps/head units, its the RMS wattage that is the true indication of how loud it is.
