I knew that :-) i just prefer to discuss such gory details on another forum (hydrogenaudio.org).

i-pod has many accessories and u can connect it with any thing u want to.

But what about creative music players?an their zen M & W players be conect to car's HU and if yes how?
Vivek,have u to tried it?

Two ways
1. USB HU : simple plug in the player via USB, its a HDD
2. Via aux in on the HU, a simple 2.5mm - 3.5mm(whatever the HU Aux in is) cable for creative

to add to it, No i haven't tried it yet. I am still scouting for a new HU.

I have mitsubishi factory installed audio CD player in car. Neither me nor wifey are crazy about music, so it will happen at leisure.

one more FM transmitter but it is the worst of all......

Iv seen a few of the older HU's being modded with a 2.5mm/3.5mm jack that can be used with Ipods etc. I guess if you can trust the chap doing the job its okay but I was too paranoid about busting the HU.

agree:
When I got an iPod Nano, I got a Belken FM transmitter as a freebie. Absolutely horrible sound. Useless piece of technology.

Quite nice discussion we had, Quite practical also.

Has anybody here used a Fraunhoffer codec based encoder.
Most encoders (Xing/Lame/blade) cutoff at 16KHz, but Fraunhoffer does not.

Before LAME I did use Fraunhoffer a bit.

I dont know much about MP3 so what I say below might be tainted.

Both LAME and Fraunhoffer are compressed algorithims. LAME discards more bits from the extreme highs as the listener would notice missing bits above 16K less. Fraunhoffer discards bits equally from 20-20kHz.

Most tests have shown that above 256k few (if anyone) can distinguish better Fraunhoffer and Lame. There is one test I know (quite old) that tested a few codecs at 128k. here is the link.
Results of MP3 at 128kbit/s Listening Test

Here's another test by Arstechnica

Is it WACK/WHACK ? Tried Googling it, but in vain.

Is there a limit in any of these players when you plug in pen drives in USB? Limit in terms of capacity like 2GB, 4GB or 8GB.

I believe the real issue is how much power can the HU deliver via USB. Hard drives need considerably more power than USB memory cards.

I have a rather old and basic type of HU unit a Pioneer DEH 1700 model. I would like to know wheather I can plug in my iPod (30 GB non-video) or Transcend TSonic 1 GB USB palyer through cables. I have tried the FM option with the ipod and some how did not like the quality.

In case my current HU is not capable to hook on a iPod what are my options for a new HU within price range 10K Pioneer preferred.
