I dont know about Zune but most HUs have an OPTIONAL cable that allows you to connect an ipod and control it from the HU itself. The ipod for example can lie in the glove compartment. You dont need a USB HU for this though. Many HUs that dont have USB still have this option.

I will also depend how the music is stored on the zune is the port is allowing to acess the data directly.....then I think zune can be used on a USB enabled HU.....but one will have to check for the same.....before buying......

  • Most of the direct USB drives has an upper limit that it can manage. Usually it is 8GB. So these HUs are more suited for pen drives.
  • Also like LBM says, it depends on how your player allows access to the files.
  • Another issue is that you cannot control your iPod from the head units if IPod is added just as a USB drive -- iPod or Zune cannot be controlled over a USB. So, as Navin says, you need to buy special HU connectors that cost +4k which allows you to control the iPod from the head unit.

determinus - I did see the special HU that you are talking. Everywhere it says iPod compatible. I wonder if that means it will also be compatible with Zune. I think the best thing will be is to take the Zune player along and check.

Those are really good specs for that price. And Sony seems to have hired a new guy in the design dept too. Good for Sony.

AC 120v/USB Inverter For the Car

Well, not totally ICE, but related to ICE.

From Gizmodo: Review: Smart AC 120v/USB Inverter For the Car - Gizmodo

Review: Smart AC 120v/USB Inverter For the Car

The 12volt adapter in a car is nice for is nice radar detectors and GPS devices, among other non cancer causing activities. But this inverter can use the ciggy adapter to power USB and AC stuff, up to a claimed 120 watts.

It works well, too.

I had it charging a Sony Ericsson by USB cable, and also powering up the monster 85 watt Macbook Pro powerbrick while both devices were active. But not at both. The USB cable didn't want to charge the phone while the Macbook was gulping down juice. The inverter also hummed away, like an overhanging powerline ready to zap a pigeon. The solution? I charged the USB device from my laptop. I'm sure the USB wouldn't flake out if I'd used a less demanding AC device. (Not a space heater.) Bonus -- it's a three pronged adapter.
The manual does a good job of outlining the dangers of using your car battery for this sort of thing. They recommend for every 3 hours of use, starting your car and running the engine 20 minutes.
I give this thing a thumbs up at $40 from Think Geek.
