I had the same query a few months ago and based upon my research Wireless Android Auto is a feature that the HU should support.

This feature is generally available in high-end Head units.

On XDA forum there are hacks listed to make it work on but its more of a hit and miss.

It's best to check the manual of your vehicle to see if this feature is supported by your HU.

i too looked up the interweb hoping i'd come across some adapter or device that supports it but my efforts bore no fruit.

Re: Android Auto Wireless now available on select phones

I agree brother

Changing the HU is the only option which means more investment which sadly i am not ready to do at this moment.

Secondly getting support for aftermarket HU is a pain in itself.

Follow up on the above question which I had some time back.

The answer has arrived from Google itself in the next Android version, viz 11.

Android 11 brings wireless Android Auto to all phones

"Starting with Android 11 later this year, all phones will soon be able to connect wirelessly to compatible cars with Android Auto.

Over two years ago, Google finally made it possible for Android Auto to connect wirelessly instead of needing to be connected via USB to your car stereo. However, the wireless capabilities have so far only been available on Google’s Pixel phones and Samsung Galaxy phones."

Re: Android Auto Wireless now available on select phones

Just to be clear Wireless Android Auto would only require Android 11 on your phone and that's all?
How can we confirm if the Head Unit in our vehicle supports it?
Would appreciate forums response. My vehicle is Creta 2019 SX model for reference.

The Head Unit myst support 5 Ghz WiFi. I just tried experimenting by enabling Wireless projection on Android 11 beta and connect with Seltos HU which did not work as the HU doesn’t support WiFi.

But Android 11 support for Android Auto wireless comes with a few requirements: you need to have both a phone and Android Auto head unit that supports 5GHz Wi-Fi.

As far as I am aware, only BMW has introduced wireless CarPlay since last few months, and is on the verge of introducing wireless Android Auto on some variants.

Were you able to set wireless AA up using a slave phone? Keen to know the results. Thanks
Sorry for the late reply.

I did try it but invain. It does not connect through wireless and would ask to connect the cable.
I am guessing the HU needs to be compatible to run AA wirelessly.

No worries buddy. Please refer my thread on the subject. I'm using AA wirelessly now. HU just needs to be compatible for AA.

In case you want to look for any aftermarket HU, look at pioneer DMH-Z6350BT. It has wireless carplay and AA. Have not tried wireless AA as I have iPhone. I just got it installed in my car. Availability is an issue though

Re: Android Auto Wireless now available on select phones

In the coming few months do we see potential of more affordable Pioneer/ Sony/ Blaupunt decks with wireless Android Auto?
I think the Pioneer 6350 is the cheapest one at the moment at 40K+

Did you get a chance to test AA?

Yes. Works flawlessly like AA too. Though tried only once. For setup, you have to use wired connection for setup, after that it is a automatic wireless connection.

Yes. 6350BT is the cheapest but I would say worth it because of wireless and AA and CP which is oh so convenient. But best is the sound quality. I use Tidal hifi over wireless CP and the sound quality is awesome. Let's just say, I will not need to upgrade Till the end life of the car.

Re: Android Auto Wireless now available on select phones

Guys, I have now tried Wireless Android Auto on 3 different cars and on all of them, the experience was poor. Wireless Android Auto made my Samsung S9 (otherwise okay) terribly sluggish and the connection would break like once every hour. Even on the HU side, there was lag from time to time.

At the same time, I found that the wireless charging pad makes my phone HOT.

I don't know if these problems are only because of the technology being relatively new, but the next time I'm going for a test-drive, I'm taking my cable along. Is faster & glitch-free.

Re: Android Auto Wireless now available on select phones

Have been using (or at least trying to use) Wireless Android Auto on the 6350BT for a couple of weeks now. Am using a S20 with Android 11 and the experience is quite bad!
There are random disconnects all the time! Sometimes it reconnects on its own - other times you better park the car before you try to fix it! Wireless might not connect or might connect but insist that audio plays through the Phone Speakers or just ignore the phone altogether!

Am quite sure it will all improve in the coming months but right now - would seriously advise against splurging on a 6350bt specifically for Wireless Android Auto (it is a great HU otherwise with Alexa built in which can give some interesting moments of its own)
