ICE setup minus the HU !

1) PDA / or some contraption with headphone out
One with big touch screen can play videos

2) 4 channel amp

3) RCA

4) wiring kit

5) DIY the stand for the player/pda

I see a HU. What's your point JKD?

Anyways thats how you achieve a 4 channel pre out for your 4 channel amplfier. With fader and the general pish pash of pre amplfier control.

So what's "minus" the HU? How will you feed the 4 channel amplifier with a stereo EP? With a Y connector? Thats 2 channels. Then why bother with a 4 channel amplifier? hmm?

hypothetically, one can get a 4 ch. amp and use an external fader. Still the PDA is very limited as a music device. I would suggest a proper hard disk based MP3 machine such as an Ipod or Creative. you'd still need some controls.

And the most painful part is that you will need a switch to turn on the amp :(

the HU is not 'on'

the pda was connected directly to the amp via a Y connector and then split to 4 channel.

Posted this to show how a simple ICE can be setup by a novice who has a pda/ipod and dont want to buy a HU.

You get good softwares to work in pda etc that play music and that had various controls.

That's a 4GB Palm Lifedrive if I'm not mistaken.

That stand is DIY? Good job!

I've seen a similar setup here with a Blau GTA475 amp (It accepts direct line-in from any device that gives output to a stereo jack). It is cumbersome once the novelty wears off.

Navin your P990 supports Duo pro. So why dont you try. P910 supported till 2GB and hence P990 should support more than that.

and he has an Atom right?

Nah... Its the 1.8" ones Navinji is lusting for... while the 100GB ones are coming in Jan, it will be a while before the 200GB ones are out.

Gunbir, is seems, keeps a track of my fetishes! Yes 200GB on 1.8" is what will satisfy me as it will allow me to store a mathematically lossless (yet with ID3 tags) version of all my CDs in my car!

As far as my P990 goes, it is still to behave well as a phone leave alone as a browser, media player, etc... I like the form factor thought and was even considering a Rover PC S5 to replace it but that phone is only available in Russia.
