Well a reasonable thing to do is buy a pioneer 6100 amplifier and run the woofer off it.

guys, He might already be having a amp for his other speakers. I think all he wants is an amp for the sub !! So why put in a 4 channel amp for that?? a decent monoblock should do the trick.

As you have 306DVC sub, you need a mono amp stable in 2 ohm load. And the cheapest available option is Sony XD Series mono amplifiers.

well SAM, i may be wrong but I tried the same thing off a Pio 6100F....it didn't work out well. the amp would clip at high volumes, desi alpine did the job better. waise bhi, he's looking for a monobloc.

Safest bet would be to dispose off the 306 DVC and go in for a JBL CS1200T coupled with JBL 301 monobloc. or add pio to this set up as I did!! and u'll look no further!

if that is not feasible, go for pio 7200 mono.

Well I already have a pathetic amplifier that is sony 504 "4" channel desi amp.I am planning to use 504 for powering speakers only.

Well I dont mind a amp even if it isnt monobloc, I jst want my sub to perform the way it is supposed to.

Should i really dispose of this sub?? I heard its quite good?? Or should I go for jst an additional new amp to power this sub?

Well the 306DVC is a really good sub. You dont need to dispose it. Just find an amp that works well with it and also a good enclosure. I had the same sub and used to run it of the JBL 301 mono amp. The only reaons I got rid of it was because I was not happy with the local enclosures available. I now use a GTO 1204BR sub.

Isnt Alpine MRP-M350 mono available in the market? I remember seeing one with the Alpine dealer in Pune. The price quoted was 12k or so, though you can get one online for $50-100. For something that tiny, it can hit 300 rms at 2 ohms!

are these cheaper than the Pio amps like the famed D510 etc..?

Ace (aka Jim), since you have a 504 and a 306C your options are
a) Get a nice 4 ch. amp for your fronts and sub and let your 504 drive the rear
b) get a mono or 2ch. amp like the Blau PA275 for the sub.

(I am presuming that you are not happy with your 504 (bridged) running your 306c).

I think he meant with B&W. The Sony puts out 250w @ 4ohms and 500w @ 2ohms, retails for Rs 11990. I think the Pio mono also sells for somewhere around this much in grey.

just realised that Sam's 6100 option was about the cheapest. Bridge the 6100 into 2 channels. use each bridged channel to drive one voice coil. Not ideal but at 7K it might be the cheapest option.

Would this be bad for the sub? I mean, with each VC getting a slightly different signal, wouldn't the two VCs uhhh... confuse the sub's cone? I was thinking of the very same thing (changing my current sub to a DVC sub and using my old 4-ch amp to drive it) a couple of months back, as I now have a 4ch amp lying spare.

Nothing wrong with two bridged channels of a 4-ch amp (or stereo channels of a 2-ch amp) driving a DVC sub. Go for it.

What Navin meant by 'not ideal' was perhaps in reference to the fact that a Class D monoblock like the Alpine will put out more power to the subs than the meek 6100, and that would be good for the subs.
