BMW iDrive upgrade possible?

Hi All,

I am new on the team-bhp forums. I tried looking for a similar thread but was unable to find one.

I have a 2016 X1 sdrive 20d. While the current X1 is the same in terms of exterior and most features, the newer cars come with an upgrade version of iDrive and also a reverse camera.

I am wondering if there's an authentic way to upgrade either iDrive or add a reversing camera without losing warranty, and burning a massive hole in my pocket.

I have looked at bimmer tech, but i'm looking for an "OEM" kind of solution

Thanks
Gursartaj

Not possible to upgrade iDrive without losing warranty & without burning a hole in your pocket. Bimmertech is the safest option, but it comes at a huge cost and will still void all warranty.

Your only option is to either enjoy the car as it is, or to spend several lakhs on a tiny upgrade that will not change your ownership / driving experience in any meaningful manner.

As for the reverse camera, you get some wireless options which have a battery operated camera which can connect to an app on your phone or a dedicated screen which can be plugged into a 12V socket. Any permanently wired camera will again void your warranty.

An OEM style solution won't come on the cheap, and it will almost definitely void your warranty if you do it elsewhere.

To give you an idea about costs; I've been a quote of almost 2 lakhs to get an NBT Evo with the touch controller, apple carplay and the works by a known and trusted FNG. That's a heck of a lot of dough to plump for an OEM solution. Going to BMW will obviously drive those costs up further still.

You can save a bit by having the parts carried down by someone coming down from overseas, but you're still looking at a hefty bill. My advice; stick with what you have, unless you absolutely must have the latest and greatest at close quarters, money no object.

HI !
If a reverse camera is all you're trying to integrate into the current OE system, maybe you should try this - available overseas !

Don’t think you can without incurring huge costs. You could either get new headunit from the likes of Avin with a skinned android to look like ID7 or try for something like this: https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/tKj8Us7Q
