Autopsyche's Mitsubishi 3000GT ICE...

Hey Guys

For all those in the know, Arush finally ICE'd his baby... (For the others, linky linky) And though we don't post installs here anymore, here is a small SQ install you may like. Enjoy!

The Story Begins...

The car came with this Pioneer Double DIN HU

Stock tweeter location, up on the dash

Stock Tweeter removed...

Stock Tweeter close up

Now onto the doors...

stock midbass location

Door panel removed, a pioneer coax was installed in the stock location by the earlier owner

Inner side of the door panel

The Boot of the car with space saver wheel and utility pockets in place

Utility pocket removed. Why? Read on...

Stock 6x9 location behind front seats

Again, Pioneer ovals installed by earlier owner

Car being stripped of almost entire interior

Boot Stripped

Work starts on sub enclosure, which will be where the utility pocket was on the floor. Note masking work on interior plastic panels.

Fiberglass work progresses

Rough edges eliminated

Sub ring being made

Contd...

Autopsyche's Mitsubishi 3000GT ICE... contd

Contd from post #1

Ring test fitted on enclosure

Fiberglass work proceeds...

Enclosure test fitting

Autophile (JB) doing the all important volume and sealing test of the enclosure

Mr Fancy Schmancy coat himself, Mukul Patel of Patel Auto

A layer of FonoGel used for the enclosure's internal sealing

More stripping

And then begins the damping of the car and boy did we damp it

They even damped the fuel pump cover

Wondering whats going in?

Fronts: HERTZ HSK Custom 3way with Dome Midrange
Sub: HERTZ HX250 10" sub

Contd from post #3

The sub enclosure again, now carpeted

AZcomp AT25G terminal cup used for connections at the rear of the enclosure

test fitted again

Internal cabling for sub enclosure

cable from amp plugs in into rear of enclosure, like so

while internal cable plugs into sub like so

Final test fit of enclosure

Cables going in...

Connection Audison Reference SONUS ST interconnects used

Cables laid

And now back to the doors... umm... where the hell are the doors...

Yes, we removed the doors, why? cuz we can... heh heh, read on...
As you can see, the inner skin of the door has been damped

The doors were removed as there was no acceptable provision for routing the 12ga speaker cable into the door. Of course, we could always use the stock connector but that would involve cutting and splicing a cable that was already butchered by earlier installers (cough cough: hacks). The solution, we made a new hole...

contd from post #4

Of course the hole was sealed with a grommet.

Where do you find such a grommet you ask, your friendly neighborhood workshop... or in this case...

Stock door cabling gets a new conduit

Doors get more damping

Close up of custom MDF ring installed on door

AZcomp FonoPol 1000 also used for damping

Panels finally go back on the doors once doors finally go back on the car

close up of custom ring installed

Cosmetic ring, finished with AZcomp vinyl

cosmetic ring installed

HERTZ HV165L high output 6.5" woofer going in

And the doors are GO! seen here with grill

Remember the rear stock 6x9 locations... we made new cosmetic rings for them, seen here with and without AZcomp vinyl

test fitted onto panel

And used as a crossover mount location

Back to electricals, stuff used for connections

Grounding point ready and grounding terminal installed

Earlier battery and connections

Battery Terminals changed

Car Battery to Ground cable upgraded

Battery replaced with Optima Yellow Top

Also note battery to car chassis ground installed

Waterproof fuseholder

Now to the HU, an Alpine 9857 with the full speed iPod cable

Alpine full speed iPod cable comes into glove compartment and HU installed. See the round black thingy in front of the HU, thats the controller for the bluetooth handsfree kit

and the kit's brain sits snug behind the HU

while the mic goes on the top of the A pillar and the little display onto the center of the dash, affixed to the windshield.

Now for the handsfree kit's dedicated speaker... we removed the ashtray.

Autopsyche's Mitsubishi 3000GT ICE... contd

contd from post #7

So we removed the ashtray and used the location to house the Bluetooth kit's speaker.

Of course we also fabricated a custom grill for this, covered with AZcomp speaker grill cloth

Now that things are beginning to look good, its time we go back to audio

Dome midrange and tweeter installed.

Audison LRx4.1K amp

Amp Installed, note trim plate on top with concealed neon lighting and plexiglass

More concealed lighting...

Boot top cover (fabricated from MDF) installed

Sub close up, note gap in floor board in front of sub

Sub gets cool ambient lighting effect

System power up time

HU checked, iPod interface checked

And she's done...

End result: As desired, a light yet powerful SQ setup that can sing as well as kick. All this with almost no loss in boot space or functionality. And the sound is very involving and enjoyable, especially the vocals and midbass. The sub integrates like crazy. FYI, The fronts get 130w per side and the sub gets 500w off the other 2 bridged channels. There is no EQ, XO or TA used on the HU.

The Bluetooth kit adds a new dimension of convenience, enables safe driving and works very well. Recommended for anyone who spends a lot of time on the road talking on the phone.

Do post any questions you have re the install and we will be glad to answer...

Cheers

This has gotta be the most detailed install-pics thread. Beyooootiful work. Your mouse finger must be real sore from all that uploading

As always, great install! And as always, I'm pissed there's no way I'll be able to listen to the car :(

Congrats on the setup, Arush! Enjoyyyyy!
