Man, this is an issue i just dont seem to decide ( basstube or sealed box-JBL 1204B-1000watts)

LBM, please suggest why not the tube and why the sealed box? appreciate your inputs, more the details much better, though i have asked all other gurus too and some suggested tube ( i think revtech uses one and he seems mighty pleased) and some ask to go for sealed box.....and with a lot of deliberations have finally decided on the tube..and you now add a new angle to my already frustrated, torn between the two--life

problem is installers here in hyderabad havent reached to that level that they can give me a demo of both, so i can choose between the two

I'm not LBM, I'm Bob but here goes anyway.

If you want your bass well defined (tight) get a box, if you want to wake the neighbours (boom) get a tube. Guru LBM will provide the long version. :-)

Navin is right. The box is precise, the tube is funnn. Also the tube is decidedly cheaper, so buy whatever you like and can afford.

Navin J Sir I am no Guru.....just a hobbiest.......Mobike Navin ji has answered the question with a nice practical answer......

If you like the sub to be musical...then go for box......or if you want to show that you have a loud music setup in your car then bass tube....

One more thing the tube will give you more quantity of sound but the box will give you more quality of sound...

Ok, i have decided to take a demo of both and then go for it. Btw, any idea there is a new 12" model in tube called 1200T instead of 1204T. It seems the latter is discontinued. Any idea why and what is the difference of this new model?

Also, if i go for the sealed box, will 1204B ( 1000 watts) mated with CS300.1, will give a good SQ? and the tube and this model of sealed box is only 1K...so price wise it wont matter. Also, i was quoted 1200 bucks for the original JBL wiring from amp to HU, forget the name of the cord, is it ok?

will keep you posted after the install

incorrect information. There is no CS1200T, the 1204T is the only 12" bass tube. There is a CS1004T, this is a 10" tube.

I think you mean the price difference is 1K. The tube MRP is 6500 and the Sealed box 1204T is 7990. That makes a difference of 1.5K. If you seek SQ, the CS300.1 with a CS1204B is a better bet. However in this case, it might be a better idea to go for the GTO301.1. More power. Better SQ.

This is probably fake.

Thanks sam, i did see the box this evening myself, maybe i got the model number wrong, let me find out tomorrow...dont know if it can be fake, if it is then its pretty blatant about it

also i saw a catalogue which said 1204B is 7490, it was a jbl catalogue..black in color, i mean the catalogue...i am not sure this dude is dealing in fake stuff..though he called himself authorized jbl dealer..car sonics on minister road.

how much is 301.1?

I better stay away from this fella, will go to the one where i decided to install..i was just doing some comparo as there are many shops in one single street.

OK let me help you, to make sure you are not cheated.

The CS1200T was the old tube, discontinued in early 2006. This was a lower powered tube. It is distinguishable by the older GT3 woofer inside and the JBL is screen printed on the tube.

If he has this, it is old stock.

The new, current tube is the CS1204T, it has a GT4 woofer inside and is higher powered. It is clearly distinguishable from the woofer and the JBL logo is machine embroidered on the tube.

This is current.

The older boxes are distinguishable by the aluminium checquered plate on the sides. These are also discontinued.

If he has this, it is old stock.

The current sealed box is the CS1204B and the recent catalogue says 7990/-

Apart from this there are Bass reflex boxes (GTO1204BR) and Band pass boxes (GTO1204BP and GTO1204BP-D) but these are more expensive.

Sam, your a life saviour

He was showing me the old models and trying to pass them off to me as newly released. I saw the woofer with JBL logo in red and the sealed box was also the old one with the steel panel on the sides. omigosh, that was a close shave, i was almost about to get it installed last evening.

Now, i know what is new and what is old, will stick to my guns, thanks a bunch again for your help

GTO301.1 has 204RMS at 4 ohms and CS300.1 delivers 200RMS at 4 ohms. Sounds like mariginal difference, Sam would know what this difference could mean.
