Re: Queries in 'Ask the gurus' section

I checked at carax in Pune, the sales rep suggested JBL266C (cost Rs.4800/-) or Helix b62C (Rs. 6000/-)

Are these good components? Is the price correct?

Reading through this section a common theme is get a good installer, does anyone know a good installer in Pune?
Is Phadke, Kothrud, Pune a good installer?

Re: Queries in 'Ask the gurus' section

Dear Gurus,
I'm looking for a budget speaker upgrades for my Punto, 12k Max.
I want to keep my OEM HU and no plans for an Amp and Sub now, may be later(read laaaaaater).
1.Good Compo in the front doors and "ok" compos in the rear door.
2.Very Good Compos in front and "ok" co-ax in the rear.

i like some thump in the low and not too bright upper, better vocals.
my music varies with the time i drive, some good head banger in the morning for a spirited drive to office and laid back melos for returning home.
i want to get some knowledge from you gurus before i go to a fancy auto shop and scratch my head. Please help me out here, Thanks in advance.

Re: Queries in 'Ask the gurus' section

Hello gurus

I am on a hunt for a good hi-lo converter for my ICE install in civic comprising of 4channel amp front components and rear coaxials.

Have no intentions to change the OEM HU for its integrated looks and the lovely 6-CD changer.

have seen on
Scosche SLC-4 and Maxxsonics MX-2
are there any other converter available ?

and what would be approximate price for the same?

Main priority is unwanted noises and hisses should not occur and the converter should take care of it very efficiently.

Re: Queries in 'Ask the gurus' section

hello everyone..
i am a bit confused about my ICE upgrade, need some advise.
ill try to make it short.
Car: Swift LDI (2010 make)
HU: Pioneer (dnt remember the model number but it has dolphin display and 3RCA out)
Front: Auditor Comps Rip-165S 200W
Rear: JBL GTO948 (coax 400W)

now the things i am having doubts on..
Amp: Sony 4ch 600W XM-GTX6042
Woofer: JBL GT-X1250T BassTube 1250W
Wire: unbranded nod very good quality but not bad either.

the whole system is running on 1 AMP.. 4 speakers 1 Bass Tube..

now guys i want to ask.. what changes should i make to get better and louder sound.
i was thinking,
New 4ch amp to replace existing Sony amp :JBL GT5-S644 800W (or other plz suggest)
New Mono amp (plz suggest not very costly)
New Woofer(replacing BassTube) : either 2 1200W JBL Woofer (GT5-S12) in a Vented Box or single 15" 1400W (GTO-1514) in a Vented Box (any other plz advise)
new wiring: JBL or e2 schoche.

i am trying to get best bang for my buck.. cant spend too much..
plz advise.
thank you.
Regards,
Nishant

Re: Queries in 'Ask the gurus' section

Sure, the JBL 5 channel amp would be a good choice - definitely better than the Sony you have.

Do you really like to listen to boomy bass? The ported enclosures - if you are getting the enclosure done - are unlikely to be tighter than the bass tube. If the box is made to specs and tuned, it need not be bad. I would recommend 1xGTO 1514 over the 2x12" subs.

Re: Queries in 'Ask the gurus' section

Hi,

I am expecting the delivery of my Refershed Vento sometime soon.
I plan do some ICE upgrades to the car in March next year hopefully.

Actually the reason for posting this now is my manager is going to US. And I thought why not get atleast one thing from US.

My Idea.
HU - Keep the OEM HU.
Front Speekers - Will listen to them first. If they are fine will not upgrade but 80% chances are that I going for Components.
Rear Speakers - Will keep OEM
Amplifier - I already have a Alpine MRP F300 4 channel Amplifier with me. I plan to connect the 4 speakers with this amp. Any reviews on this amp? I have found it to decent.
Mono - I need some suggestions on this one as this is the item I can think of getting from US. budget aroud 150 - 200 USD.
Sub - I already have a Kenwood 12" Sub. But its vey old now and I would like to change it. I might not be able to buy imported brands becuase of budget constraints. I am considering Pioneer Champion series Class D sub. Any reviews for this one?

Budget - Not a penny more than 30K.
I do plan to get Sound dampening also done.

Music preferrence - I would love crips base even if it as at the expense of high Decibel levels. I generally listen at medium volume levels and love clear and crips Bass.

2nd option:
Sell my current amp and sub. But a 6 channel amp from US and connect everything on it.

Finally My Questions:
1) Which scenario is better 4 Channel + Mono or a single 6 channel amp?
2) Any reviews on Alpine MRP F300 which I already have.
3) Which mono to get from US?
4) Is Pioneer Champion series Sub a decent one?

Thanks

Re: Queries in 'Ask the gurus' section

In continuation of the above post. I was looking at this mono Amp.
JL Audio J2 250.1:
Rated Power 14.4 V:
  • 175W x 1 @ 4 ohm
  • 250W x 1 @ 2 ohm
General Features
  • Fully variable 12dB/octave filters controls offer excellent tuning flexibility.
  • Pass-through pre-amp outputs permit interconnection of multiple amplifiers.
  • A heavy extruded aluminum heat sink is designed to keep each J2 amplifier in a comfortable thermal range during demanding operation. This improves reliability and reduces the frequency of thermally related shut-down events.
  • Rugged MOSFET devices in their power supplies for outstanding reliability and operational stability.
  • Fully variable bass boost circuits are included on all models. Monoblock models also feature a wired Remote Level Controller (included).
General Specifications
  • Differential-Balanced Input Topology: One Mono Pair (RCA Low-Level)
  • Subwoofer Crossover: 12 dB/octave with continuously variable cutoff frequency selection from 40 - 130 Hz. Non-defeatable.
  • Preamp Output: Pass-through type with unity gain
  • Bass EQ: 0 - +12dB @ 45 Hz
  • THD at Rated Power: 1% @ 4 ohms
  • Frequency Response: 10 Hz - 100 Hz +/- 1.0 dB
  • Input Range: 200mV - 4V
  • Dimensions (L x W x H): 13.20" x 9.60" x 2.15"
  • I intend to run a Pioneer Champion Series Sub Woofer on it. Would this amp be sufficient for that.

Re: Queries in 'Ask the gurus' section

For information - I got one
I bought a pioneer headunit (DVH-3390UB).
This is reading an external HDD. It plays DVDs and USB too
Capacity - 150 GB
Format - Fat 32
Power - Powered through USB cable

It takes a bit time to initialize after the HU is switched on. Once done it continues to play the songs without delay. Sound quality is good. Good to use External HDDs for long drives. Keep skipping the songs you don't like.

Re: Queries in 'Ask the gurus' section

I am planning to install ICE in my Punto Active.
The budget is 20k. My desires are-
A decent HU
Front C0mp+Rear Comp/front comp+rear co-ax.No 6X9 as I would like to install in the default location of the doors. Is this too much compromise on quality of the whole setup?

Now few alternatives are-
Pioneer/Kenwood HU (range 7k)--please guide on the model and suggest to upgrade if moolahs are worth the quality
A sony HU with BT (have been quoted 8.1k in Gurgaon)..suggestions on BT as well.

Infinity 6530 comps-4500 to 5k
Rockford comp-4400

Is it advisable to go for comps in all the locations as I am not planning on any immediate Amp?
Will a really good co-ax serve me better than a comp in the rear doors?

Also, I am keen on getting damping done. If you could suggest me a good place in NCR.also the budget, as the posts that I have read, give me an idea that one door should cost around 2k.

Important thing, I am not a rock/english metal fan. Mostle FM, old hindi songs, new hindi songs, ghazals etc. do not like shrill or excessive tweeters..bass is good but Vitamin M is not(atleast at this point)

Kindly advise this lost soul..I will be visiting this thread rather frequently to quench my thirst.

Both Pioneer and Kenwood have good procuts. It really comes down to the features you need most.

The big issue you could face with components in the rear doors is that the rear door tweeter get too close to the front passenger.

or you could move the rear door tweeter location to be closer to the rear passenger.

OK. I think I will be going with 2 front comps(Rockford/Hertz/Infinity 6530) and Co-Ax in the rear doors..kindly suggest good co-ax to maximise bass.
Does, mounting it over an MDF ring(which wil be used if I go with 6.5 inches, as opening is for 6 inch) provide better space for bass? I have read rave reviews about GTO series..which one should serve me the purpose..needless to say, the final call will be taken after audition but need a suggestion here..

Any guidance on damping?

Also, as I am not planing on Amp/sub soon, what amount should be used on wiring etc.?

I hope the replies to my post picks up now.
