I know that but we were talking HUs and like gunbir said the HXd2 has a HPF at 20Hz. I did not know that. I knew the 701 did but that is not a HU.

I think the fader works on the pre-amplified as well as post-amplified (direct to speakers) outputs of the HU.
Is there any way one can adjust the volume of only the rear-fill speakers connected to the HU, when the front components & sub are connected through preouts to an amp? This information is to help a friend.

In fact, the HX-D2 can do THROUGH/16Hz/20Hz/25Hz/30Hz and so on... so its not a fixed HPF, one can choose.

Well, if you have a 3 preout HU, its simple. Sub level menu controls sub preout, while fader controls front / rear levels. But I guess you knew that. In a 2 preout HU, where you're running the rear speakers off the HU rear channels, they would fade along with the sub.

One option is to use only the front preout of the HU, through to your amp. Then choose a single input to 4ch output mode on your amp (Nura Sir, your SRx5 does this but most budget amps don't).

Alternatively, use the front preout and split it into two preouts using a Y splitter like this,

and then input them into your amps. Assuming your sub amp is a mono, or an amp that has this capability, use a remote bass knob to control the level of the sub.

@Gunbir - Clear, thanks. Would you recommend heat shrink tubing over spade connectors at the ends of speaker wires? Is a hair-dryer good enough to heat shrink the tubing?

Besides, the humble Pioneer cables have heat shrink tubing. I don't want to deprive the Hertz Hi-Energies of them.

@Razor - Yes. Your HU has 3 preouts.
@Shuvc - I missed an opportunity last night as I had forgotten to take my camera. Entered Chandney Market through Gate # 5 & walked nearly to the other end. Found a shop with a huge stock of Malaysian MDF sheets in all thicknesses. A little further down, 2 guys were churning out MDF parcel trays on a jig-saw (not sure of the name, they called it a jaali machine) at the speed of a tray every 2-3 minutes. Next door, they were carpeting trays, MDF rings & amplifier mounting boards. They were even ready to fabricate MDF door pads if given samples!

Regd my setup: I need to see how they've wired it. Like you saw that day, I cannot tune out the rear fill from the HU. The sub quietens down with it.

I think the rears & sub would quieten down together if Razor was fading the rears.
