No HU? iPod directly to the AMP? Thats Freken Brilliant. Only on TBhp.
I wonder why no one has tried that earlier. I see in ICE section many saying that they want a decent HU with USB.

I guess shortly we should see a thread with one of our ICE experts set up a car with a iPod docking station on the dash connected directly to an amp.

I tried that long before I joined Team BHP. I connected my DiscMan to the amplifier (Sony 222) in an 800 which had only a cassette player and tried playing it directly. The problem was, the amplifiers would make a hell lot of noise every time the RCA/stereo jacks were connected/disconnected from the player. Besides, I had absolutely no control over the pre-amp level (Imagine: no fader, no bass/treble controls, no proper volume control!) The setup sounded pretty much ok, believe me. But I really did not want a hassle.

Hey how about this,...

I love DIY with quite enough quality of performance on tight budgets.

OK,...
I assume that you have a HU already? It was not clear from your post.

If yes, think about using the amplifier of the same HU. Buy 4 good speakers. Since your budget is 8K, try to spend the best part of it on good speakers. That is more than half the job done for your requirement.

Hack your HU to inject the AUX stereo pin output of your iPOD into it. I'm sure you will be more than satisfied with it.

I would suggest this method, as you will not have to buy new speakers once you get more money again. It is a scalable solution . Just go and buy a HU later, then an amp and then a sub may be.

Never use FM transmission and expect a good quality out of your iPod. After spending on Griffin or iTrip, you might end up with a sour face. Believe in wire to wire contacts.

Shyam, Blaupunkt GTA 275/475 amps have direct aux-in. Probably you should get rid of your current amp and buy this one

for 5k in mg road? i got your valuable inputs, will do some analysis and get back here again...
No brand name! Also, there is one pic with a different display. Most likely made north-east of Himalayas.

No reason why it will not do what it says it will do. But for 5K without B&W you can get a decent Pio / JVC / Kenwood (OK, without DVD) - at least others have experience with those for some assurance.

Dicey, best avoided.

thanks a lot guys, i am really surprised to see this much replies for my query. I believe going for IPod without HU having an amplifier is good but a trial and error method, as the sound may or may not suffice. so i believe the only option is to go for a dead rate HU for amplifying my ipod and get speaker for it. i will do further investigation will get back to you guys for your comments...

thanks a lot..

dude if your not getting a head unit make sure you get the GTA 475(4 chann amp) and power all your speakers because if you get the 275 and jus power 2 speakers the sounds only going to come from those speakers cause there is no headunit and your playing directly from the amp.

Our boo is on a budget. Even he gets a basic HU, he would be connecting through Aux-in. Hence, charging will always be an issue in his setup.

Ckeck if the Blaupunkt amp puts out decent volume with your Ipod connected to the aux-in. I'm afraid you will probably see that the volume on the Ipod has to be near maximum to get any decent level of sound. However I may be wrong here. Try it out at the dealer.
Never go in for the FM transmitter route for Ipod. The sound sucks.
You can get an Ipod car charger for around 200 bucks in Lamington road, Mumbai or from Indiatimes.com.
