I have seriously considered an Alpine, but I am losing out on iPod and USB control. I would love an Alpine 9885, but I an quoted too high a price in Pune (with B & W only, not available grey).

It happens quite an often that people buy based on recommendations without auditioning and later regret. Theres a lot of difference when you go looking at specs and when you actually listen to the sound. Further, as you pointed out that you have a medical condition as regards listening, its pretty much necessary that you listen, make a comparison first and then decide.
No one Pune allows any demos, at this rate, I might have to consider going to Mumbai. I rarely make a purchase like these without a demo, but all the dealers I have visited so far are refusing a demo!

What do I do?

You get full-speed iPod connectivity with the 9881. Just add the KCE-422i cable (about 2K). No USB, though (AFAIK).

The 9885 can take USB input wih a KCA-620m cable. The 9885 also has full-speed iPod control, with the KCE-422i cable.

The 9883 also can take USB input, and has iPod full-speed (same cables as the 9885).

W124 ICE - SQ Setup

Need inputs from Gurus on a SQ setup in a 1994 W124

The car currently has stock speakers and JVC KD-R514 (image appended)

Here's my plan

Stage 1:

Keep the original Head-unit
Infinity Kappa 60.9cs for front (already acquired) (read below for location)
Infinity Kappa 62.9is for rear parcel shelf stock location
Amplifier - yet to buy - budget 15k~20k (4 channel)

Now, here I want to put the front kappa tweeter (only) in the original dashboard speaker location. The woofer will be fitted on the doors. I have done some photoshop on the door in the photo below

Note: There is no speaker location here. I want to cut the door card and any other metal below to do this fitment.
I know most would want to kill me for this mod, but I suppose to each his own.
Can this be done? Any advice on this will be highly appreciated.

Stage 2:
The original intent of the install is to go active, so here goes

Head-unit Pioneer 80rs
Infinity Kappa 60.9cs play the high and mids
Need Bass/ Low players for rear parcel tray
Will probably need another amplifier.

Now, keeping this in mind can the gurus please recommend an amp.

Further inputs on the install on door/ any other issues etc also appreciated.

Re: W124 ICE - SQ Setup

Guys! I have appended an image of a door card in certain models that comes with a speaker in this location.

I am looking to source a door card or even the speaker grill from abroad.

But, if I dont find it, I will most certainly be forced to cut my door cards.
