Audio system upgrade in my 1996 Jellybean Zen | Great experience at Motorogue.in

Hello there everyone ! It's good to be back on the forum after an extremely long hiatus (I say that every time I write a new thread), anyway since I have a little time at hand, I thought of quickly penning down a thread to talk about my experience of trying my hand at getting a car ICEd with a full fleged audio system

The contender

My much loved and daily driven 1996 Maruti Zen, fondly referred to as 1513 will soon complete six years of ownership with me, coincidentally I had purchased the car a couple of days before my birthday. So I thought, why not get a good early birthday present to myself and something that will make my fun drives in the car even more fun.

Originally, my car did not come fitted with any music system. When I bought it, it retained the original blank panel. I had had a Pioneer DEH-P4650 midrange headunit from 2003, which was lying at home, fitted for it along with some cheap Pioneer speakers in the front. I suppose they were fake.

The audio output was terrible. I got a Bluetooth transmitter fitted later so that I Could play music off my phone and answer calls without having to change the HU, but that sounded awful too. Hence, getting a good audio system was always at the back of my mind. As someone who loves listening to music, it was a must. I clearly remember that several Zens and Esteems that dominated the roads decades ago, had killer audio systems. Now it was my turn. A couple of decades late, but well, better late than never !

re: Audio system upgrade in my 1996 Jellybean Zen | Great experience at Motorogue.in

My knowledge about car audio systems is pretty limited. Post some research I figured that a good audio system isn't necessarily cheap. Most systems I looked up cost nearly twice of what I paid for the car. So I decided to settle for a good system, which too wasn't cheap but still affordable at the same time. I did save up a lot to afford this system as I did not wish to settle for something mediocre and cheap.

None of which, would not have been possible without assistance and guidance from my dear friend and fellow car enthusiast Chetan, who is a veteran with regard to all things car-audio.

Chetan directed me to Motorogue, which is located at Andheri East in Mumbai and I was introduced to the owner Mr.Dipesh and the electrician Shafiq Bhai.
Dipesh was very prompt in understanding my requirements and budget. He immediately worked out an excel sheet along with Chetan's inputs and they gave me the list of items that would be required to make my car audio experience epic and fun along with the costing.

re: Audio system upgrade in my 1996 Jellybean Zen | Great experience at Motorogue.in

Due to my busy unending work schedule I was unable to drop the car off during the day, so I went over to the Motorogue workshop one night post work and dropped it off. Dipesh assured me that work would begin the following morning.

As promised, work began sharp at 11 AM and I received prompt updates from Dipesh on WhatsApp explaining the progress and details. The updates were super useful as I learnt a thing or two about the installation process.

The first and most important step of the process is called Damping. This is necessary to ensure the sound stays within the car and makes your listening experience pleasurable. Without this the car will vibrate and judder especially when the bass is high, more so in the case of a light car such as a Zen. Post damping I can feel the doors have gotten a tad bit heavier

Once the damping was done, the goodies were brought out !

There they are !
Absolutely beautiful stuff and brand spanking new. You can see the Nakamichi amplifier, and Aura DSP. Beside them is the subwoofer enclosure custom made by Shafiq bhai. He did a stellar job.

The amp and DSP go in. Heavy duty Nakamichi wiring was installed through and through.

And it is ready!

While I was in no hurry, Dipesh called me in the evening saying that the car would be ready the same night. Absolutely ecstatic, I headed to Motorogue after work and was thrilled to see the car with its new audio system. I reached there around 8pm. However, Dipesh requested me to wait for an hour or so saying that while the installation was complete, he needed some time to tune the system. I waited patiently.

In about 45 minutes, he was done with it. And boy o boy did it sound amazing. My brief was simple; I like my music like how I like my exhausts. They need to sound good and give me the best output without making too much noise. I am happy to say the brief was followed perfectly. Thankfully I still have some amount of boot space left too !

Here's a quick look at how it sounds !

First play post installation and tuning!

re: Audio system upgrade in my 1996 Jellybean Zen | Great experience at Motorogue.in

Post the installation and system usage, I am nothing but elated. This is something I wanted to get done for my car since ages and now have finally done. Could not have been happier and it is all thanks to the effort and dedication of Chetan, Dipesh and Shafiq who helped make it possible.

Now coming to Motorogue. They are a well known online e-commerce platform that deals in all car audio parts and systems, I have seen their name being mentioned here in the past. The workshop at Andheri East is relatively new and can easily accommodate two cars.

Dropping the address here :
Ground Floor, Giriraj Industrial Estate, Unit No, A-4, Mahakali Caves Rd, Andheri East, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400093

https://maps.app.goo.gl/gTpQoNcHpsiLP3Cy6
Link to get there.

Also a list of pros and cons :

Pros
- Fantastic quality of work and dedication from Dipesh and Shafiq. Work was top tier and extremely neat. The subwoofer box was made perfectly and the wiring was super neat and organised, unlike a scary mess I have seen in some cars.

- Honest work - be sure to be updated regularly about the progress of work. Also, be sure that the systems being fitted in your car are completely original and not fake.

- Killer pricing - The prices Motorogue offers are extremely reasonable and installation charges are not sky high either. Be assured to not get ripped off here.

- Timing - These guys are very serious with timelines and will usually ensure that your car is delivered the same day it goes into the workshop.

- Workshop is neat and tidy with a washroom and AC room to wait in while your car is getting ready.

Cons
It is very difficult to find any cons at all in the absolutely flawless work and service by Motorogue. Maybe for someone like me who lives a bit far from the workshop, the location is a bit of a con. But cannot complain, it was worth every penny !

Contact number :

Those interested in getting their rides ICEd at Motorogue can connect with them here. The workshop is open till 7pm however, they will work till late if you have been promised same day delivery. The passion and skill they work with is admirable and something you don't get to see often now, I will hence 10/10 recommend Motorogue to anyone here that is looking to get an excellent audio set up for their car !

Hope this thread was informative and enjoyable for everyone.
Signing off,
BeemerBug.

Thank you for sharing your experience! It's good to hear that you're so satisfied with the installation and system usage. It’s great to know that Chetan, Dipesh, and Shafiq played such a key role in making it happen.

Motorogue has indeed built a strong reputation in the car audio space, and it’s great to see their Andheri East workshop expanding its services. Wishing you many enjoyable drives with your upgraded system!

Great car, committed owner and a fantastic audio upgrade. Thanks for sharing! Your showcase will be going to our homepage this weekend.

Do these guys have any Thar expertise? I have a convertible top and am looking for a stealth audio upgrade.

Thanks GTO. Yes they do audio setups for all kinds of cars . I am sure they have done Thars, if you check their Instagram you will see a recent Jimny project they undertook.

Talk to Ramie from Soundfactor Pro. This guy does regular high end audio installs on all cars from a humble Baleno to Jaguars and Mercedes. In my opinion, he is THE best in Mumbai.

Nice upgrade. Are these Morel components MKii or MKiii? I didn't see grills in MKii I got sometime earlier.

Good going.

Thanks BeemerBug_06. Do they also advise on infotainment upgrades. I have a Blaupunkt Costa Mesa 900 on my 6 year young Ertiga that simply won't run Google Maps since the OS can't be upgraded anymore. Everything else works very well.

Great to see you taking care of the Zen so well.
