(Sorry Navin, couldn't resist. I know I'm dangerously OT). |
I've built XOs into these plastic boxes since the late 80s.

and what plastic boxes are these? :-)
BTW Anup, the colors chosen for the xo are nice. so when do we expect these state of the art XOs in the market? why dont you develop a continuous variable xos? like variable inductance, capacitance and resistance(for attenuation)? it should have a display as well. that will be nice and will sell like crazy.
whats the name of the company and the brand? i have a suggestion,
"
ashok xo"
badhiya kaam, bajip daam. haha.

visiting card boxes.
Bumping an Old thread.
Was planning to build a Sub Box.
Guys please helpplease:
Recommended Enclosure volume mentioned in the manual is 1.25cu.ft.
Some questions.
1.What should the outer dimensions of the box be, considering .75 inch MDF is used.
2.The shape of the box should be a cube type or the rear side at an angle considering this is going into a swift, and the angled rear fits snugly at the back of swift?
3.Im considering a paste of wood saw+ fevicol to seal the box,is it okay?
4.I plan to drill a hole at the box of the box to let the wire in, and seal it with fevicol, is this ok?
5.From what I have gather from the forum=
1 cu.ft =1728 cu.in
So volume required by the sub= 2160 cu inches
So Hypothetically if I have a box that is 15 inches high and 15 inches wide the depth comes out to be 9.6inches ,?
Is this ok ?
And I havent taken the Sub Volume into consideration, what should I do ?
Some additional Info:-
1.This is ofcourse an SQL application, hence sealed.
2.The Sub in Question is TS-W1208D2( 2 ohm DVC Pioneer champion series wired in series 4 ohm, 400 w RMS peak as per specs)
3.The sub will be amped by a Kenwood KAC M845 (2 channels Bridged, pumping about 180 w as per specs sheet)
Cheers

@GT500: A small suggestion from my side, Please use a general purpose silicon sealant for perfectly sealing the joints. It will cost you about Rs 125 for a pack lus about 100-110 for the applicator gun. Else you can use clear type silicon gasket maker used to seal joints in various Automobile assemblies. Might work out cheaper as it is available in small size tubes and you wont need an applicator gun for this.
@Diesel_maniac
Thanks a ton for the PM and the silicon suggestion, will try it out when I get down to building the box.As for the software, lets just say I'm a little ancient when it comes to these things, but thanks for the Input, will give it a try after reading the help of the software.
OK here is the image of the box type I wanted ( note : LBM ji had posted this in some thread, so Im looking at Inputs on the dimensions to be changed here, to suit my needs, specs of the sub posted above ^^ its a pio 12 DVC sub requiring 1.25 cu.ft as per manual for sealed )
Also I have read somewhere people usually dont build boxes as per manual specs they go for bigger enclosures why is that ?
Help needed on the dimensions guys.please:

if you want to consider the dimensions of a box consider the internal dimensions and add 10% for the woofer volume. Sealed boxes are tolerant of minor variations in box size.
Dont worry too much about getting it exact to say 9.6". 10" would be fine.
Thank you for your inputs sir

I have prepared a design with the custom dimensions (MDF USED 0.75 inch), and the volume comes about to 1.29 cu ft. which is just about right as 1.25 cuft recommended volume included the displacement of the sub.
Here is the drawing:
Excuse the quality , as this was drawn in power point
I shall go ahead with this box design, if you think this is ok.
Cheers

Looks fine. Will the slope match the rear of the seat?

Thanks for all the guidance, really helped me out.
I thought you would say that, Well, I'll just subract and add more(equally) to top and bottom dimensions to make the steeper for a really snug fit and match the slant of the back seat , to save space and to make it look neat.
Thanks again.:thumbs up
Cheers

Best of luck GT 500. Do post pictures when you are done.

A little sawdust mixed with Fevicol does the same at no additional cost. Plus, there will be no remnant solvent fumes to damage the bonded joints in the sub (sealant solvent evaporates extremely slowly). Just make sure the mix is firmly pressed into the joints with the back of the tip of a spoon or with finger tip.
