i think this says it all!!!

Shrivz, I gotta disagree with your statement here. Most of the installs that I heard (especially the ones that sounded outstandingly good) have been a mix and match of various brands between the speakers and the sub. Let me cite a few examples (ofcourse haven't heard all the setups but from what I have heard, they sound good):

With regards to this car, the less said the better. We dont know what components are changed in what crossover etc.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/sound-...ndblowing.html

Illusion audio and Ground Zero have a similar timbre, so they mate well.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/sound-...-upgraded.html

Hertz and ID mate well!

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indiancarpicture-143.html

JBL and Infinity again, mate well!
If you notice, in the above combinations that you've mentioned, the brands are from ONE distributor.

All distributors usually keep and recommend brands which mate well with each other!

Yes, I do stand corrected on that statement that I made, but a general thumb rule, would still be to stick with one brand and the same series in that brand! many times, people cannot afford the same equipment in the same series of that brand, or those particular components are overpriced!

But at the end of the day, everyone has their own personal tastes and every brand has its limitations/downfalls. So in order to compensate for the bad qualities of one brand, another brand with a similar tonality and timbre is used!

EDIT: I have tried running a GZ sub with my JBL setup and it doesn't work. A JBL sub still, gels well with the JBL components. No doubt that the GZ sub is fantastic, but it feels out of place!

Let me put it this way, some people like waffles with Honey and butter, some like it with chocolate, some others like it with blueberry jam!
At the end, "how do you like your waffles?" is the question to be asked!
Man, am I hungry! off to eat breakfast!

try this out perhaps,...

- get a degree in acoustic physics, may not be literally
- top it up with a masters on how the market works and product packaging
- learn what not to expect and what to expect out of a product
- DIY - right from choosing the smallest component
- sit back and let your head enjoy the music

(probably i sound a bit like sam and a bit like navin put together, but that's exactly what i did, and now I really do enjoy the music.)

a small advice,... paying extra for technology or a special capability of a product may be considered worthy but never pay for blings and expect your happiness and satisfaction to live longer than a few ego filled demos during the meets

gotcha???

In audio there is a saying.

"If you want lights go buy a christmas tree".

I wont tell you who said that first.

There's a brand poster that goes something like, "The only time that blinking red and blue lights look good in your house is in the last week of December"

And another one that said, "Shiny badges are appropriate for those working with law enforcement"

and yet another.. "The only place suitable for 'DISCO' mode usually has a bouncer at the door".

Don't lose that. Ever. Otherwise your whole ICE is just a waste.
Well said indeed. And I dont think it applies to just ICE, audio in general.

I derive pleasure from all forms of audio. It doesnt have to be "audiophile" to tickle me. Just last night I was at a Sardars bash and I cannot explain my glee in watching the sea of turbans bobbing up and down at everything that the DJ threw at them. Its amazing actually, even the young ones move with clockwork-like precision. Its like the music is controlling their bodies. No one would give a damn about whether the sound was harsh or aimed the wrong way and hence there was no clear central image of the crooning Chamkila or Mika.

I cannot express how much a good nightclub system excites me. I simply love it. Its not audiophile by any strectch of imagination. For electronic and all other forms of club music, nothing less will do. In fact, that was one of the primary reasons why I started DJing as a hobby. To listen to my favorite music, on a killer music system, played the way I want it to be played.

I love it when folks exclaim things like,

"Oh look, the singer is right in the center and slightly higher than the ear level. She must have recorded this while sitting on a high barstool kind of thing...
"Oh listen, I think she just stood up and adjusted her dress now."....
"Oh gosh, I think she just got her period!!!"...
"Yeah, maybe you should change the banana plug now"

It baffles me when people say things like "I would never let 50 Cent come close to my car". Thats not your musical taste or your car cant do justice to good rap music - then that's fine. I can't think of any other reason why not.

As one of my college chums used to say - if you cannot respect all kinds of music, irrespective of whether you like it or not, you should not claim to be a music lover.

I fully subscribe to that. Respect, is the key word.

you seem to be having a mid-life crisis of some sort ....& when such things strike there is one of 3 options:
1) Change your car
2) Change your job
3) Change your woman

i believe you are single (????). You are still a student. So it will be logical for you to change your car!
