Re: ICE for Innova

Separate usb cable having female connector from back of car player is there.
Update : if I connect iPhone with lightening connector to this usb cable, everything is fine. If connect usb flash drive, then also it works. But my iPod doesn't work. Well I see all controls on HU and song being played only audio is not heard. My iPod is touch 1st gen having 3.1.3 software.
One suspect is cable from JVC is not compatible.

Underseat powered subs neither go low nor loud. They do give a feeling of bass, slightly less than that of a pair of good 6x9 coaxes.

If you buy a powered sub - underseat or regular - it becomes a must that at least the front components are amped. Otherwise, it will be as before that bass overpowers other frequencies - difficult to tune. If you have a 4 channel amp, you can get the Polk 8" (with box; unpowered passive, sealed box) underseat subwoofer, and power it by a bridged pair of channels from the amp.
What set up would you recommend, @derAlte?

- Amp: 2 channel? 4 channel?
- Front components
- Rear?
- 3rd row (mine is a 7 year old innova)?
- Sub woofer - active or powered from the amp?

The dealer throws up a lot of BS about class a, class ab and class D amps. Monobloc etc.

Please let me know what set ups I should audition. (LIke I said, I am a noob at this)

Thanks a ton.

PS: My HU is a Pioneer DVD unit. Quite happy with it.

The Aux-in part (red/white/yellow) is incidentally in the same cable, but that is nothing to do with the USB part. The USB part is working properly. Nothing wrong with your iPod Touch either.

I suspect it is the cable that you are using between the iPod and the USB female connector on the JVC cable. Borrow another cable and check. Apple protocol is unchanged for playing media, so it is only the cable that might be at fault.

The dealer is giving sales spiel, and wants to sell what he has. Ignore.

* Amp: Get a 4 channel Kenwood M846 or JBL x646 - will suffice your needs. 2 channels for driving front components, 2 channels bridged to drive a sub. Less than 6K

* Front components: Audition Infinity Ref, JBL, Polk, Morel, Boston, etc. and decide which one you like. ~6K

* Rear (doors) - round coaxials of same model series are front components. ~2-3K. Drive these with the *front* channels of the HU

* Rear (3rd row) - 6x9 ovals - JBL, Infinity, Polk, Pioneer etc., mounted on hatch. ~3-4K. Drive these with the *rear* channels of HU

* Alternately (no coaxials on rear doors), mount a pair of 6x9 ovals in boxes, and keep them below the rear seats (2nd row), driving them with the *front* channels of the HU

* Get a Polk 8" sub in sealed box (prefinished Polk box) and keep it below either of the front seats. Drive it with the bridged rear channels of the amp

Re: ICE for Innova

HI ,

I planning to book a GX and looking at options for a good double DIN music systems. My requirements are.

1) max budget for HU is 15 to 18 K.
2) It should be a touch screen DVD one.
3) Should support the latest music file format.
4) Should support USB etc.
5) Should be compatible with reverse camera.

Also suggest a good place to buy and install in Bangalore.

Regards,
Gopi

Re: ICE for Innova

I have the stock ICE on my three year old Innova VX which I plan to replace now. The sound from the stock system and speakers was barely OK, and I could not connect my IPOD or Pendrive to this system. However, I bore with it till now but to avoid any problems with the warranty. Now that the warranty period is over, I would like upgrade this system. My budget is about 50K, and I listen to soft music (mostly movie songs and bhajans) - nothing loud.

I am thinking of going in for a 2-DIN system which will have bluetooth inputs for my IPOD / Phone / USB stick. I will not watch movies on this screen, but I would like it to have good resolution for me to read the menus easily. I also wish to connect a reversing camera to this system.

Ideally, I would like to continue to use the audio controls provided on the steering, but this is not a must - I can live without them.

I request the advise of the gurus on how I should proceed with the upgrade. Will changing the Head Unit alone make some difference to the audio quality or should I look at changing the stock speakers (which I understand are very basic) as well? Since I only listen to soft music, should I consider installing an Amplifier or will the HU alone suffice? Any recommendations on the Head Units / Speakers /Amp would be welcome.

One more advice I would be thankful for. Is it OK if I get this upgrade done at a Car Accessories shop, or should I look at going to a specialist in car audio systems? I live in Hyderabad but I do travel quite a bit to Bengaluru and Mysore. Any recommendations on where I can get this done in a proper and reliable manner? Thanks.

I have gone through an upgrade on my VX (Speakers, HU). My suggestion is to first upgrade speakers to components on first a) just the front and then b) all 4 doors. (I have infinity 7xx reference speakers). The c) step is to upgrade the HU d) is to get an amp and subwoofer. Do it step by step and stop where you feel satisfied!

My suggestion is to try the Toyota service center or someone else recommended by them (a 10-15% extra charge is little compared to lifetime peace - you can always ask the dealer to fix things (fear of escalation to Toyota) but the accessory walah will very quickly look the other way.

Re: ICE for Innova

Thank you. So far, I have been going to In Decars in Banjara Hills for my car's accessories. They in fact have a shop inside the Toyota Dealership in Madhapur.

I have two reasons to replace the HU - one is as a monitor for the rearview camera and the other is to get Bluetooth hands free facility for my mobile.

May be I can look at doing this step by step, starting with replacing the HU and only the forward speakers. Then the rear speakers, then an amp. I probably will not need a sub-woofer at all.

I heard good things about Infinity speakers. Will certainly look at them. Could you please tell me how much you paid for a pair of Infinity 7 series component speakers? Any suggestions on the HU?
