OT: The LP12 was a good 'table but I believe it was over rated/ over priced.

probably jumping off on comps and a 2ch for the time being.

Currently planning on a HU, sub and mono-amp.

Is mono-amp wise choice?

if all you are doing is driving a sub a mono amp is a good choice. they are designed for that purpose.

As per HERTZ lingo, "component" means a single item, like just the tweeters, or just the midbass, or just the subwoofer. And "system" means a set of tweeters, midbass and appropriate crossovers.

In India we call a "system" a "component set", In Australia they call them "Splits", in some parts of Europe they call them "Kits" and in others "System".

Thats why HERTZ calls them DSK (Dieci System Kit), ESK (Energy System Kit), HSK (Hi-Energy System Kit).

Cheers!

I think the Hifonics sub is still decent, but I wouldn't spend a paisa on Polk anymore. Whats your budget for the sub and amp?

Dev, I dont think you would be able to buy a brand new sub, box and mono in 12K. I think its best you go with a 4ch amp, driving your fronts and sub.

What genres of music do you listen to?

How do you like the bass?
Just want it to gel well with the speakers, or do you want to feel the bass with a nice and tight thump? I assume you dont like boomy bass since you've mentioned that you dont want a tube..

Do you like a lot of treble? or do you prefer something easy on the ear and a little laid back?

I guess it would be better to pick and choose brands based on your music preference and listening taste, since audio is very personal..

cheers!
Shrivz..
