The phantom face indeed..

Bought it used in the US and got it shipped to my BIL who just traveled to India.
I have to tell you this -
The day he got the package, my wifey got a frantic call from him saying that the it was missing parts - the face plate. I was traveling to Dehi and she didnt want to tell me on the phone.
She was pretty upset and told me as soon as I got home. Poor bro and sis were worried all of 3 days and here I was, grinning away to glory.

Sigh, I still remember back in 2003 when I was buying a new HU, this was the one I really wanted but there was no way I could afford it at the price of 54k with B&W!! So, had to settle for a 9813 :(

Story of the 7998

Ever since I made typo in my original ICE thread, the 7998 was haunting me. Was trawling ebay and found one for 300$. Given that my BIL coming this month , I bought it - what the heck..

Managed to get to my installer today in pouring rain, connected the HU. If the earlier setup was joy, this was pure ecstasy. Even FM sounds better

Moments later, hit a snag. The phantom face was acting up. Refusing to move. On investigation found that there were bits of thermocol (the stuff that the sellere packed it in) had scraped through the mounting holes and was jamming up the slider mechanism. Thank god that my installer is an authorised Alpine service guy. So he is currently cleaning it up and regreasing.

More tomorrow when I get it running full throttle.

finally

Since I managed to hang my digital camera 2 weeks back, I had been at a loss to post pics of the install.

Finally got the camera back from service and here goes.

Now you see the face

Now you dont

The JL6450

the monster audio RCA cables.

The Alpine 17rls mid bass

The tweeters

JL 10W4 sub in a sealed box

Connectors on the sub

Connector on the rear door frame to aid removal of the sub box to make room

Finally the polk coaxials in the stock location

Me is one happy bloke after this

ICE gurus comments plz..
