On more try , Take the HU out and try installing in any other car and check for the result. Or take out the HU connect the power from the amp power terminals and connect a small rca lead ( like which comes with a home dvd player) and then tell what the results are.

Johy, please don't give up hope. Remember, when all seems lost, the true followers hang on and it is they who are rewarded in the end. You have picked up a good HU, trust me, i'm speaking from experience.

Sometimes when i'm bogged down with stuff, i just step away, try and sleep off my worries, then i attack the problem with caffeine in my veins and oxygen in my brains. Free your mind and keep the faith.

Everyone is here to help you. Cheer up.

Thanks St. Anger for your words of encouragement. The HU is really good and the scratchy sound is not discernible while driving - that is a positive thing. I will try out what LBM has advised and see what I can come up with as well.

Cheers!

I dont believe the solution to this problem has anything to do with any equalliser. I suspect that the Chicago unit had a floating ground and hence once the small signal (RCA) was sent through it the floating ground acted as some sort of ground isolation.

the fact that the rear outputs perfrom well and only the sub outputs have a problem leads me to believe that the connection of one of the RCAs at the sub output has been damaged in transit.
