GT5 is 275W RMS and GT4-12 is 250W RMS. I still prefer GT4 series.

I also suggest you change AMP or buy another amp like kenwood 8401 for Rs 4700 and use that amp for sub and sony for speakers.

kenwood specs :
  • Maximum Output Power: 640W
  • Rated Output Power (14.4V )
    60W x 4 at 20-20kHz 0.08%THD (4-Channel Mode) (4 Ohms)
    60W x 2 at 1kHz 0.08%THD + 180W at 1kHz 0.8%THD (3-Channel Mode) (4 Ohms)
    180W x 2 Bridged at 1kHz 0.8%THD (4 Ohms)
    90W x 4 at 1kHZ 0.8%THD (2 Ohms)
it is again the same not enough to power 275 watts

^ amit, AFAIK (and I am a noob), the RMS powers of the sub/speaker and amp don't need to match up. In fact the amp should be lesser than the sub's rated power, otherwise if you take it to full, you may blow the sub.
e.g. My Illusion EL 6.1 components are rated 75W RMS, but I am only running them off a HU which I think feeds them 22W RMS or so. They still run awesome! (but it means that with an amp they will perform even better!)

So from whatever I have been able to gather from this forum, the 8401 will give you a good enough sound with any of the subs talked about in this thread.

its allways better to have more power(headroom) than to run the subs underpower.if the sub is under power then there are more chances for the amp to clip and the subs to distort.
its allways better that you have powerfull amp and use the GAIN to feed them the correct requirment.

Very true. But it is most difficult to observe that a sub is clipping, where as in the case of tweeter is the most easiest.

The CS 1204(old GT-4) comes to around 2.4-2.5K, whereas the GT-5 is around 2.9-3K in grey. I'd say would be the best options in this price range.

These prices sound good! So out of the CS1204 and the GT5, which would sound better off a Kenwood 8401 feeding it 180W RMS?
