Cheapest good SQ Sub with Kenwood 8401 amp

As some of you know, I have got Illusion EL 6.1s running off my Pioneer 6050UB in my Estilo. Now, being the person I am, and being a Team-BHP member, I must think of an upgrade. I am thinking about getting a Kenwood 8401 4-channel amp, since I have only heard good things about it, and it has fallen below the 5K price mark (grey) which makes it superbly affordable for a good 4-Ch amp.

I want to use the front 2 channels for my components of course, and want to run a sub off the rear channels bridged, which should give me about 60W each speaker and 180W for the sub. Now I know that is not very high on the scale of many members here, but let me clarify what I am looking for.

Objective: I am NOT looking for loudness (SPL). I am looking for quality (SQ). Or to put it more accurately, I am looking for 90% SQ and 10% loudness. I am quite comfortable with how loud the HU takes the speakers, though towards the top I can feel the sound going a little muddy. Essentially my idea is that to enjoy music one needs to get the full spectrum of frequencies. (That is why I always install 2.1 speakers to my computer, TV etc.). And that is what I want in my car... not a BOOM BOOM party machine, but still enough punch so that I can hear the music the way it is intended to be heard.

So how about it - which sub(s) will best suit my need at 180W? (Let's say the budget is 5K and I am totally open to buying a second hand sub in that range).

I would suggest you go in for ground zero GZ 30T 12"inch subwoofer in a sealed enclosure,and it runs superb on the kenwood 8401,tried and tested and will satisfy your SQ+loudness thingy...cheers..!!

I wonder if 30Ts are still available. @B&T should be able to confirm. TW12MK2 is the entry level. However, a) it'll be over his 5K budget surely. 6K+ surely. b) It's probably rated at 350 or 400W. 180W might be a tad too low.

I would suggest go for a JBL CS1204 (erstwhile GT4-12). IIRC its rated at around 250w. MRP is 3990. Shops might have discounts. Add a box and it should be around 5K.

30T retail price is Rs. 5990/- and is available. The 12MK2 is the new model, similar specs to the 30T, Rs. 5490/-

Coming soon, however it is a DVC, 500+ watts RMS and will cost 6k+, all of which are not suitable for veb.

@B&T, slightly OT question:

Is the TW12MK2 rated at 350w or 400w? Asking, since the GZ site mentions 400, whereas the sticker on the sub mentions 350.

User Manual and our information sheet mentions it as 400. Never power tested it, but its been working successfully with folks plugging in rated power i.e. 400.

@Vebmetal - You have an amp for 5k (or will get one), how much do you really want to spend on a SQ sub. The list goes on from 3k (pio) - 35k (ID Max) and above. Without that your question makes no sense.

Now from what Ive read here, you have read most of the threads and posted quite a few of your own. If it was any one else he could've gotten suggestions. But youve read it all, you should roughly know the pricing of every product common here (Hertz, Illusion audio, GZ, ID etc etc). So my question is what do you really wanna know that hasnt been said on the forum before.

Now the reason why I have typed this out is - some newbie tried to help YOU (ya you he got nothing out of it) in your playlist thread and you flamed him for not knowing what a playlist is. Dont get ahead of yourself bro. If you expect everyone to know what a playlist is i expect you to READ the forum completely and most likely you'll get your answer.
