Optra ICE

Hey All,

My dad just handed over his 2005 Optra 1.6 LS to me (anticipated) , which has all an OEM ICE [ 4 Speakers, and a TAPE&Radio ONLY Blau HU ]. "Any idea of anyone who would buy these off me ?"

I desperately need an upgrade and will be off tomorrow to get a Pioneer 7950UB HU (already decided on this). I have no idea of what speakers are in the car right now. I need suggestions for the speakers and a 4ch amp. I would like to power all four speakers from the amp and forget about a sub for now. I'll do fine with co-axials for now.
I will be shuffling between all types of music, so just assume I need an "spl"
setup. I will do the driving and/or be sitting front mostly.

My budget is 16k for the speakers and the amp, HU and wiring and others is seperate. I will try for the sub next month. I hope this is done by tomorrow. Im just stocking up on the 7950.

Thank you for any suggestions

bump... No replies. I got the 7950 for 9,000 fitted with the stock speakers. Bad SQ.

In order to use the 937 6x9's I need to cut the parcel shelf, which I dont want to do :( What are the solutions for rear speakers in the back doors ? [stock location] Please mention indicative prices.

I've got 6x9s on the rear parcel tray. The speakers are installed on a slope, so no cutting involved. The front door takes 6.5"s.

@shuvd, a few pics would help immensely! "installed on a slope, so no cutting involved" is difficult to visualize, dada.

For 16K one options owuld be 4 speakers from JBL's GT5 or Blau GT range mated to a a 4 ch amp from either JBL, Pioneer, Kenwood, or Blaupunkt.

Since you dont have a sub 6x9 in the rear deck are highly recommended.

Thanks. "shuvd" I would really appreciate it if you could post some pics as requested.

How much would it cost for the JBL 937 6x9's (grey) for the rear, on a "slope", with all other stuff like MDF.

What comps should I get for the Front ?

After browsing other optra ice setups, I see many references to Rudra's optra ice. I cant find it on the forum. Could anyone paste a link to that thread ?

Ah... Thank you. Seems feasible.

Would I rather go in for components in all four doors and leave the parcel tray alone ? Since I guess the stock locations on the doors are 6.5", what components would sound best (~priced best) ?

How good are Sony amps ?

For now, Please just suggest the front comps.

Can I add just 6.5" co-ax's for now instead of 6x9's on the parcel tray? If yes, then what (model & price) ?
Ill be adding the sub by the next 2 months and wont mind the lack of bass till then. Just the front+rear+amp now.

Cheers,

BTW: The Pio 7950 doent fit into the stock optra location at all. There are ugly spaces all around it ! :( The installer said he couldn't do anything !! ANY workarounds ?

I would avoid them. JBL is the way to go when on a tight budget ...
Other popular options would be blau, kenwood or pio...

Why dont you do your upgrade in stages ??
Get a good 4 channel amp and good front comps for now and later when budget permits get a sub and rear coaxials/comps ...

Thanked: Once

You can put GTO-61/2" Components in the Front and GTO937-6"x9" coaxials in the Rear with a GT5-604 AMP in the boot of your car on the Sidewall.

This set up must sound very decent.

All JBLs

If you're looking at grey market goods, a pair of components (607s?) and 937s should fit in. You'd have to bargain a little though.

The MDF tray that you're getting can be modified a little to suit the requirements (add a little thickness at the back?). Just have it elevated at the back so that the tray is inclined enough.

However, I am not sure of how much the tray is going to rattle if installed this way since it would be mounted only on the corners.

Ok then, So Ill be doing the front comps+amp now... others later

How much should the following cost ?

JBL 6.5" Comps (suggest something)
JBL GT5-604 or CS60.4 Amp
Intall+wiring

Wont care about damping for now.... will do with the sub.

Thanks,
