A friend of mine is coming from Dubai in March. I thought of inquiring about a few Pioneer HUs that I had in mind. If there is an arbitrage advantage, it might make sense to get it 'imported' from him, rather than going the grey market route in India.

However, this is what I found out (from the official Pioneer distributor for UAE) and also confirmed by a friend there.

Pioneer DEH-P7950UB=780 Dhs (INR 8,500)
Pioneer DEH-P6950IB=600 Dhs (INR 6,500)
Pioneer DEH-P5950IB=Discountinued (??!!)
Its replacement is 5050IB=580 Dhs (INR 6,300)

This obvisouly shows that there is not much of a difference between prices. Do Pioneer HUs in (grey market) India come from Dubai or elsewhere? I believe they come from Malaysia/Thailand (higher chances of fake from BKK) or Singapore?

OT - Is there anything worthwhile in ICE to be imported via The Friend from Dubai? From my experience, its only the latest electronics, or the big-ticket items (e.g. LCD, plasma) that have a price differential vis-a-vis India. However, since I did not compare ICE products when I was in Dubai, I am not too sure about their price difference.
