I would love to learn what can be done.
I am keen to learn what can be achieved with 100 K in a car.

3. Keep in mind that the i10 has it's limiations - it is a small car, with a small engine and thin body panels. Adding 30 kg of weight in damping, amplifiers, speakers and the associated electrical load will be felt (if slightly).

HU: 9887 or any that has TA and SQ: 20K
Components: Illusion/Infinity/Hertz: 12K
Coax in rear doors: same as above 6K
Dual 10" subs: IDQ: 16K
Amps: 1 5/6 ch amp or a monoblock and a 4ch. amp. 30K
Damping: 8K
Wires and Install: 8K
I am not sure that the prices above are accurate (infact I am sure they are not) but it will give you an idea.
I would love to listen to a few 100 K + systems.
Where can I do this ? Who can offer to help ?

Set of proprities is simple - SQ install. I never listen to music 'loud' !!!

I do not want anything @ the back.
Music should only play from the front............. Nothing from the back.. Never.

I do not like the I-10 either. But is a car for my Wife. So, this is the best I could manage. The tin is too light & will surely resonate. Will have to damp it. Hence the set up needs to be simple - front components + sub.

Alpine 9887 / Clarion head units

Front Components : 15-20K

1. Hertz High Energy Comps / 3 Way comps ( if they can be accommodated in I10 doors)

2. Illusion Audio carbon series ( Not sure of the price .. I guess its 30 K )

3. Morel Components

Rear Speakers : 6-10 K

1. Hertz HSk / GZ speakers / Illusion :

Amplifier : 40-50K

Steg / Audision / Genesis : 4 channel
Class D monoblock for driving sub

Sub : 15-18K

Image Dynamics 12"

Wiring + Damping + Install :

arnd 10-15K
Sir,
I need to listen to these components;
How ?
Where ?

Morel, I would be interested in [front components].
JL Audio sub [or subs]
Amplification - all 3 options I like. Helix / Brax would be my first choice.

Battery ? Need to replace the stock battery ? So I have been told.

Bhagwan,

There are dozens of brands available in the market. Unfortunately few dealers carry more than 2 high end brands. The reasons I listed Hertz/Illusion/Infinity speakers (for example) was that these brands unlike JL, DLS, Focal, Morel, Dynaudio, and even Boston Pro and Polk Momo are farily priced in India (compared to US prices). While 100K might seem like a big budget you still want the best VFM dont you?

For a list of dealers that carry them you can contact Sam for Infinity, Gunbir for Hertz, and Bass & Trouble for Illusion. Sam and B&T are based in Mumbai and I know for sure B&T has atleast 3 cars with sample installs.

For the HU I think there is a consensus on the Alpine 9887. This is normally available for about 22K.

For your speakers Infinity Kappa, Illusion Electra and Hertz Hi-Energy are what will fit your budget (about 15K for the fornt and 6K for the rear). I suggest you do not ignore the rear as some day you will have rear passengers and they will not get a balanced sound.

For the sub Infinity Reference, Ground Zero Uranium, Illusion IM and IDQ will all fit your budget. Ground Zero is also represented by B&T, ID by Gunbir. For the i10 I would suggest either a single 12" sub or 2 8-10" subs. Powered by about 200W rms.Budget 15K

For the amp a good 5/6 ch amp like the Ground Zero Hydrogen, Infinity 5350 or Audison Srx 5 will suffice. Budget 30K

You will need 15K for wires, damping and install. So even with these rather modest components you can exceed your budget of 100K. If you want to hear about some more "exotic" installs PM BlueRaven (in Bangalore), B&T (in Mumbai), or Gunbir (in Delhi).

Though those are all nice brands:

Morel - Not been impressed by their entry / mid level products. The build quality on the entry level ovals was downright nasty.

JL - decent/nice, but you can buy better sounding stuff for lesser.

Helix / Brax - Brax is very nice, Helix is good too. Great amps but a bit cold / clinical sounding to me.

That said, thats just my own opinion. We all have our own opinions and tastes. I think its most important at this point in the process to define what your system's goal is.

For example: My mother's santro had to have a stock location / stealth system, removable faceplate, simple UI, maximum boot space availability etc. On the sound front, it has to be nice and clear, reasonably loud, balanced overall, well integrated.

So I chose 4" coaxials in the front and 5.25" coaxials in the rear. A 2ch amp, bridged to a 10" sub in IB in the spare wheel well. End result: Here is how I would define it. Sitting upfront, I would ration points (out of 10) like this:

Highs - 3
Mids - 3
Lows - 1.5
Sub - 2.5

So you can see how the midbass suffers in this install due to a non boxed sub, and small speakers. Ideally I would have liked this ratio:

Highs - 2.5
Mids - 3
Lows - 3
Sub - 1.5

But unless I mod the door panels and install amp'ed 6.5" comps upfront, thats not going to happen. So I live happily with the system, not that my mom cares. To her it sounds good as it is.

So whats your goal?
- Do you generally like metal tweets / soft domes?
- Do you like your vocals laid back, or upfront?
- How do you like your midbass, articulate or wholesome?
- What about subbass, feel it in the chest, or "is there a sub" kind?

To arrive at the answers, delve into your other audio experiences, and listen to some cars as suggested by others. Though some things on your wish list may be limited by budget, some by convenience, some by the automotive environment itself.

Cheers!

1 pairs of Infinity Kappa 60.7cs in the front as you do not want Speaker in the Rear

Which ever you can find

Loaded Enclosure in boot
Rockford Fosgate P2L-210
Amps to Drive the Subs
2x Rockford Fosgate P2L-210/MTX X Thunder 300XD/JL Audio A Series A1200

Let me know if you think this config is Lower power than you expect.

the high end morel speakers are nice. if you can buy from abroad get them. they are 3 times costlier in india. . . ATLEAST! ditto for helix/ brax/ audison/ hertz etc. all of this you can buy from dubai if you have someone there for like dirt cheap prices.

change the battery to a good one. there will be a huge difference for someone with a ear for sq.

Bhagwan, all the distributors of the brands that you name must have demo vehicles, or should be able to organize for you to listen to one of their setups with the concerned products installed. That, in my opinion, is the least that a customer desiring to buy high-end products can ask for.

I doubt that there are many users of high end products from the brands you name. But the very few that possibly exist, the distributor would probably know. Try this out. If you want distributor contact information, I can give it to you.

The set up plays sound, does not creat music. There is no communication..........
Too precise, very mechanical etc.

Have never heard a Helix or Brax - hence cannot comment.......
Would love to - no 2 ways about that!!

Hi !

Thanks;

The HU will be from Alpine; However, I am not an Ipod person. Besides, I may need TC [Bass Alignment] will have to check if IDA has that function.

MTX - PTC Sells
Rockford - Digimax Sells
Clarion - ??? Who Sells ? Do they have a dealer in India ???

Bass issues, too need to be addressed......

They used to have one for a while. Not anymore.

Stick with the 9887. The iDA has its limitations.
