Hi,

My Sony HU has developed a strage problem. It reads the CDs alright when the HU is cold i.e. when I start the car. But after about an hour or so when the HU gets hot it start skipping and after some time just ceases to read CDs.

What might be the reason for this and how to correct this?

Cheers

Nitin

I also have a similar problem but the symptoms are the opposite. The HU is Sony, it reads original CDs and CD-RW, but does not read CD-R , thought of getting the lens replaced at an authorized service center, but too lazy to take out the HU. As long as its reading CD-RW, I'm fine with it.

Use a lens cleaner cd, should sort this out.

I don't think its lens - i think its temperature playing its roll.

You can do a simple diagnose, power on the hu listen to aux or tuner for one hour then switch to disc.If problem appears in a minute or so its temperature/power source (if you have amp+sub then your car battery/alternator may not producing enough power, and problem becomes worst in the night as head lights are on).
If problem repeats after some time 45min to 1hour then you can suspect lens.
