And i think 5K is an excellent price for the amp.

@blueraven

Is it true that the Gt5-A604 more prone to cause alternator whine. I was told so by one installer.
Adi, do I see you drifting towards GT5-A604?

Blue, please clarify this doubt!

At that price of ~5k, even I am drifting towards JBL 604 amp. As I told you earlier, my budget for the amp is (as much as possible) under 6K.

And I was recently told that Kenwood 8401/8404 is not as good as it is hyped to be. So another fact adds to the confusion. In fact someone told me that its really two 2-channel amps housed in one chassis. So I am thinking how that would affect my listening pleasure.

So basically, my order of preference right now is
1. JBL GTA 604
2. Blaupunkt GT4 MK2
3. Kenwood KAC 8401/4

Your thoughts?

P.S. Were you able to audition any of these amps at Pankaj Bhai's or elsewhere?

Havent auditioned any of them. Honestly i dont think there's any point listening to these amps unless they're powering illusion electras, otherwise i wouldnt be able to tell the difference.

We're going OT here, lets continue this discussion via PM before the mods warn us.

.
It's the other way around, you cannot understand how good an amp is if you run it off an Illusion electra, I am telling this as I install Illusion speakers every now and then.

The Illusions electras are very neutral and clear sounding speakers without the slightest hint of brightness, hence almost any decent amp will sound real nice, another thing about the electras are that they produce some solid mids, so even if an amp is going out of line slightly they will sound nice.

In the other hand if you can pick a Polk audio DB series component, it can sound horribly bright when not paired with the right amp or right HU settings. This speaker kind of draws the line, if this speaker can sound moderate and clear on an amp, then that amp is good VFM.

I personally think the A604 is a nice amp, but it's not for Rs 5000, that is grey market price, it sells for Rs 6800 to Rs 7200 with official warranty.
