Either way, here are the pics as promised
Suggestions for a good ICE installer in Trivandrum-image2.jpg

The mid bass as initially installed. There was no seal, and sound was leaking through the slots cut for the grille that came with the car. Also, the seal around the base of the driver wasnt exact either

used foam tape to cover the base of the grille that came with the speakers

After installation - yes i know it is very dusty inside !

the white foam does look a bit unsightly, but managed to hide it with black permanent marker

The end.
Well It aint over yet. The rear plank will hopefully be completed by tomorrow, and then the rears will join the party!

some googling for the door panel vibration issue dug up a novel idea. squeezing bottles of water ( the type of bottle distilled water comes in) into the door pockets. now that's a novel idea for mass loading the door panels

And of course the water can come in handy on a sunny day

Got something to do for tomorrow then !

I get rubber sheet and cut it. In Mumbai we have a place called Lohar Chawl where such stuff can be found. You just need to know what you are looking for.

A small doubt. really want to put up the Hertz stickers on my car, but I've heard that one of the best theft deterrents is not to advertise what you have on the inside.
I really want to put the hertz stickers, but then again, i want my ICE( and car) to stay in my hands.
A friend of mine suggested that some partially informed thieves might , on seeing the hertz label on a white Indica, mistake it for a Hertz rental car
what do you guys think - should i put the stickers on or not

Request to mods: can the thread title be changed to "ICEing the Indica for SQ in a 20K budget" and moved to the DIY/Showoff forums if required

From any "panchar" shop - inner tubes of bus or truck tyres! Your double-sided tape formula is only a psychological solution both for preventing vibrations and sealing air leakage.

Why is the Hertz logo showing up reversed on the grill?

Wonderful DIY job. Well done, keep up the good work!

those are of the right door actually
Reversed them to maintain a consistency in the pictures

Thanks DerAlte. I A/B'd my left and right speakers, to check it made a difference- and there was !
I'm not sure how long the foam will last though
I suppose the rubber is a better and more long lasting solution

Ok, tried the water bottle experiment. Didn't expect a lot of difference, but it didnt make any difference :(

oh, and the mdf plank seems to be taking longer than expected , and the guy from the shop seems to have stopped picking up my calls. The last was when i called him to tell that mine was not a bone stock indica , and that he might have to cut a bit off the plank in the rear to accommodate ( what i think is ) the rear de mister.

I have the feeling this guy thinks I'm too much trouble . I'll call him again on monday. let me see...

One week after i ordered , still no plank
First he said no vinyl finish, then today morning he says they cant ( or rather are *Extremely reluctant* to) buy rexin just for this one off case.

Bah, I don't have a choice. carpeting it is
He said it will be ready by tomorrow afternoon.

Btw, turns out the folks at sharleo were the ones who were fabricating the rear plank after all !

DIY is the way

Hi Green, good going. DIY is the way. I have decided it and will be starting soon. First step is to gather accessories. Now I have all the ICE equipments in my car playing with ordinary cables and installation, the next items to be sourced are quality cables, wires and damping material. I have already spoke to B&T and decided on GZ/Ichibahn/Illusion cables and wires plus noisekill. Power cables are not finalised (Finolex/L&T are also considered). Once I gather all things, will be starting DIY.

Santhosh (sharleo) is a good friend of mine too. I have talked to him once regarding installation and he said he can arrange it. But as you told, I strongly feel DIY. So let us try. Buzz me for any help / helping hand while DIY. Wish you all the best.

do post the pix of your damping . If the gurus feel that he (santhosh) does a good job, I might also feel tempted to follow. My front door really needs some.
If its being done on any weekend, maybe i could join
