ICE for Alto in Pune

Hello one and all!

I have introduced myself and given a detail background of myself in the Introductions Section. I shall reserve this space only for my query.

1. Budget: Strictly 20k

2. Genres: All except House/Trance. Mostly Metal, Rock, Blues, Classical (Western & Indian) - Instrumental, etc. (and the odd radio/ hindi film etc)

As you might've deduced, not interested in Wild THUMP/BOOM factor. Fullness of sound, clarity etc. are important. I want to be able to enjoy each and every instrument ( as much enjoyment as the budget permits of course)

After going through numerous threads, I have a slight foggy idea of what might suit my needs. But a few dilemmas present themselves.
1. Since I'm going to be driving alone 90% of the times and am finicky about what i like to hear/how i like to hear, Clarity and quality in the front is priority. If i have to sacrifice rear speakers in favor of an amp or sub i dont mind. As long as i can enjoy amazing sound in the front.

HU with USB (need to plug in my AWESOME Cowon D2 PMP)
Components for Front.
Sub (If Required)
Amp (if required)
(or both - however budget permits)

2. I might show some consideration to friends (when we go on picnics/drives etc, but this will be at the most once in two months r once a month) and get basic Co-axials for the rear.

A> Now the problem is placement. 6 inchers won't fit in the front without renovation of Door (which incidentally would also cost me)
Would four inchers mated to an amp/sub be satisfactory?

B> What about placement of rear speakers?

Is Poona Motors/Bafna Motors the only place to get a nice bargain on the items? These seem to be most suggested in the forums as far as Pune is concerned.

Is the 3k Price tag of the Bhagats Installation REALLY worth it? I mean teh wait, the appointment etc?

Please suggest the items and try to give appropriate prices. Mostly will buy WITH B/W because dad doesn't favor/trust Grey maal. (how trustworthy IS it btw?)

Thanks in advance,
Looking to audition and buy in a week's time (that's the time i'm expecting the car to be delivered)

Cheers!

HU with USB: 7K
4" in the front: 4K
6x9" Rear Coax: 5K
Amp: 7K
Wires and install: 2K
--------
25K. 18K without the amp.

An alternate is..
USB-HU (7K), good 4" Hertz/Illusion Coax (4K), Amp (7K), 10" Sub in box (5K) + Wires and Install (2K) = 25K. I know this is streching your budget but givne that your front speakers are 4" you need either good 6x9" coax in the rear or a sub.

Hi,

My suggestion would be to go to Poona motors as he gives you the best bargain & decent install.

You can contact Shrivz on the forum for details on Bhagat's work, he is really good but also extremely busy.

EDIT: You can also get the bigger comps installed in door. Check with Amit's thread Here

@Greenhorn

Yes i DID consider it. I'm confused as to whether ONLY the illusions would give satisfactory sound. Would these 4" in stock position, along with just a sub give good sound in the front? Or would i need an Amp too?

How would 4" Illusions, 6x9 co-ax in rear and a 4 ch amp sound (no sub) sound? Would the absence of sub deter the fullness / SQ ?

SoS I have an Alto with 4 inch Illusions upfront, Pioneer 6X9s at rear & a sub.

You can audition my car if that helps

Even I was contemplating the same for a friends spark. In the end , decided to get 4" coax. The end effect was not bad. compared to my own 5" comps of the same model, other than the last bit of resolution in the high end , and it actually had better mids and sounded louder than my comps. But the alto's stock location is a bit more recessed , and I'm not sure if you'd get the same effect.

Hello everyone!

Extremely sorry for the delay in getting back to you'll.

I'm glad to announce that FINALLY My alto has been delivered (the bloody dealer delayed it by 2 and a half weeks - said that the trailer is stuck in Amhedabad and whatnot) anyway, it's here and as soon as time , money (and most importantly - my FATHER) permit, it will be ICEd.

@Technocrat: It is extremely nice of you to offer. I shall get in touch with you via PM or e-mail soon. Out of Curiosity, where is the sub? boot? or under seat?
I was thinking i could go ONLY for 4" comps and sub - The Bafna Motors fellow on Ghole Rd. said he has some sweet sounding 4" polk audio comps for around 4.5k or 5k.

I think the price is steep, but is it worth it?

These are the prices quoted to me by 2-3 dealers (i've yet to go to poona motors - Where is it exactly?)

Pio 3050 - 5k (grey) 7k (with bill etc.)
Pio 5050 - 8.5k with bill

These seem to very VASTLY with what i'm reading on the forum.

Any other suggestions, inputs etc are welcome.

thanks,
SoS

EDIT: My dad is visiting the US for two weeks starting yesterday. He is not going to any MAIN cities as such, but he would be visiting Huston, Chicago, Alabama, Iowa etc. Is there any benefit in purchasing the head unit and components from there? I was thinking, i could go for a better Head Unit at the same expenditure.

what say?

SOS: My Sub is in Boot.
Lets meet & then we can decide what is best suited for your listening tastes

Getting the low end HUs usually doesnt have big impact on budget & they cost more or less the same as grey.
