Alpine steering wheel Remote (and a universal one too)

having an alpine HU sans steering wheel remote ( I'm sure all fellow alpine HU owners can empathize) ,
I stumbled onto these
eBay.com.sg: STEERING WHEEL REMOTE CONTROL ALPINE SONY CLARION (item 360078678237 end time Aug 22, 2008 02:16:06 SGT)

eBay.com.sg: UNIVERSAL STEERING WHEEL REMOTE CONTROL MPR-999 (item 360077056395 end time Aug 10, 2008 04:55:54 SGT)

the former is a multi brand steering wheel remote , while the latter is a universal learning one

they seem to be made by a korean manufacturer

¡Ý¡Ý¡Ý tratech solutions¡Ý¡Ý¡Ý

any idea how we can get hold of them? cant see them for sale anywhere else other than ebay

I am able to access the links. I will be interested to get this. The first one looks like a better one.

Why do you say the first one looks better? They both look pretty similar to me.

I got the impression that first one has high probability to work with Alpine HU. I agree that both looks almost the same.

the first one is a universal learning remote , so they should work with pretty much everything. the second one has the codes for various brands , and you can choose the brand by pressing a specific key combo.

on ebay.sg , they were priced at 51 and 64 SGD = approx 1.6k and 2k rupees

Doesn't an IR remote work only if pointed in the direction of the receiver?
It kind of beats the purpose of having a steering wheel remote?

uhm, the IR led in most steering wheel remotes are pointed at right angles and aiming straight at the HU

but yes, probably will not work when the wheel is turned at a significant angle.

But when you're driving and turning the wheel at a significant angle , I'm sure there are more important things you should be doing :P

OT: I really can't understand the marketing logic of Alpine/Kenwood who doesn't want to bring out a steering remote. Why they are so reluctant to launch such a simple thing as a steering remote. They are in audio industry for such a long time and it doesn't need a rocket scientist to conjure up a steering remote control for their HU's. So what are they waiting for? Alpine/Kenwood, are you listening.
- A person who wants to shift to Alpine/Kenwood but holding off because of non-availability of a Steering remote (oh I love to use the steering remote of Blau)

i suppose the cars in most other countries have steering wheel controls , and there are interfaces available for the steering wheel controls ( at least that's alpine's excuse)

I got a quote from the dealer. Have put up an ad in the classifieds for this

alpine means you'll continue to get ripped off in the name of SQ. high priced player, ipod cables, few features . the latest line of Alpine HU's are testament to this . I would go so far as to say they are the ICE equivalent of skoda

but hey, SQ ke liye kuch be karega !
no I havent bought the control yet, looking for a few more buyers to reduce shipping costs. will probably be placing the order this weekend

check the classifieds for more info and updates
